trip to Russia: arriving in Moscow Airport

i'll be taking my first trip to Russia solo and I've never been to Russia let alone Moscow. what was your experience arriving at Moscow airport and what airport transportation is there?

I remember my first trip to Russia two years ago. I remember standing in line for hours to get a boarding pass, to go through passport control, to go through security, even to get to my gate.

The airport offered a free airport shuttle (not sure if they do any more), which travels inside the security perimeter of the airport to the domestic terminals. However, I arrived on a domestic flight, so I ended up outside the terminal, and therefore outside the secure area, so I had to get the marshrutki shuttle which cost about $8.

Overall, the experience of Moscow Airport wasn't a bad one, I mean airports are such as hassle nowadays!
