"best beaches" is a term so subjective because of the different types available, their locations and accessibility and there are literally 1000's to explore.

Here's a list from an "expert" who has been rating USA beaches for many years and he is well-respected for his opinions...

His ranking of U.S. beaches
1. Caladesi Island State Park in Dunedin, Florida takes the top spot. Dr. Beach, aka Florida International University professor Stephen P. Leatherman, rates the beaches by 50 criteria. The rest of the Top 10 are:

2) Hanalei Beach in Kauai, Hawaii (pictured)
3) Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Florida
4) Coopers Beach in Southampton, New York
5) Coronado Beach in San Diego, California
6) Main Beach in East Hampton, New York
7) Hamoa Beach in Maui, Hawaii
8) Cape Hatteras in North Carolina
9) Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne, Florida
10) Kiawah Island in South Carolina

Hi ruthlopez22, If you want to relax on the world' best beaches, then Australia is the perfect destination. It has wonderful & sensational beaches with variety of water sports and my favourite beaches in Australia are Bondi Beach - Sydney, Palm Beach - Sydney, Surfers Paradise Beach -Gold Coast and Bells Beach -Victoria.

Bondi Beach is located just 20 mins drive from Circular Quay, the most popular Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Even though there are variety of activities available all year round at Bondi beach, surfing is very popular here. Palm Beach is located in the northernmost suburb of Sydney and approx. 45-50mins drive from the Opera House. If you want to relax in a quiet place, then Palm beach is the best choice. Surfers Paradise Beach which is in Gold Coast is the most famous
Australia Surfing spot and an award-winning beach. I have visited this beach more than 5 times but never get bored. Hope you too! Bells Beach which is in Victoria is one of the most famous surfing beaches in Australia, and I really had a wonderful time here. Visited twice and going this March again.

Australia is a paradise for beach lovers surfers, so this year have a nice beach vacation in Australia! Good luck!

Hmmm.... "Best Beaches" thread in the "Switzerland" forum? :)

Like talking about the Swiss Navy...

Australia's beaches are amazing, especially the northern West Coast. Totally untouched and pure white sand for miles and miles.

The Belize Barrier Reef has some of the best beaches in the world -- still clean and relatively untouched by civilization.
