can i reserve a specific rental car?

I want to rent a car and I was wondering if I could reserve a specific rental car or is there a way I can find out the exact type of car I can rent?

Also, is it best to book in advance or the week of my visit?
Any suggestions?

As far as I am concerned, you can't normally reserve a specific car because rental companies won't guarantee you a certain model when you book the car, so the best thing to do is simply ask what is available when you arrive at the rental branch.

If there is a certain car you have in mind, many car rental agents will make the effort to get you the one you want.

Another option would be Avis or Hertz. These two offer specialty vehicles where you can reserve a specific make/model, but those are generally more expensive than regular cars.
