are firearms permitted in the checked baggage

I know it may sound dumb but I'll ask anyway. does anyone know if firearms or handguns are allowed in the plane checked baggage area?

Actually it's a good question!

From what I can gather, an unloaded handgun doesn't break any airline regulation. However, you're permitted firearms only as check-in and you must advise the clerk up front that a gun is included inside the baggage. Also, the handgun cannot be loaded and you must place it in a locking box.

Also, you must use TSA-approved keys so that the inspectors can open the box themselves. However, if you are travelling with someone else, have that person keep your 2nd key. Because if you lose yours at the airport you may very well lose your gun.

as far as I know, it depends on what airport you are at. Loaded or unloaded, a gun is a gun and they will stop you and ask what you are doing with it. just check with whatever authorities in the countries you are planning to visit beforehand just to be safe.
