| If like me, you are already fed up by by the never ending rising airline fees and expensive travel fares over the recent months, you find the next bit of news very comforting! "Southwest Airlines is to sell one-way flights to over 100 US cities for as little as $40 between Aug. 23 and Nov. 16". That's right folks! This move by Southwest Airlines to sell cheap air fares is to trigger a "price war" that will no doubt cause midsummer airline rates to fall even further! By the way, the offers include deals for travel any day of the week except Fridays and Sundays, which are times airline often exempt for lower fares.

And a couple general tips for airline shopping: Avoid traveling on Sunday – Legacy airlines are charging a $30 peak travel surcharge this summer for Sundays ($20 for Thursday/Friday, Saturday and Monday) Shop Tuesday after 3pm when most airlines have matched airfare sales initiated by at least one airline late Monday night. And avoid pricing on weekends. airlines typically pull the few summer discounted flights they have on Thursday night leaving higher prices in the reservation systems on weekends

Those are some good tips! I know airlines charge a $150-$400 premium for commuter connecting international flights. This is why I normally drive to a bigger “hub” city, but only if it works out cheaper ( so I have to factor in fuel and parking costs into the equation.

I've been checking airlines website for a while now and prices on southwest airline website really fluctuate more than others. Im aware that Southwest has sales every week from Tuesday to Thursday. But to be honest, if you see a rate you can live with I would jump on it rather than wait:)

Southwest doesn't participate in the travel clearing sites, like Expedia and Orbitz, so if you want to buy online, you need to do it at Southwest.com. Maybe that's how they keep their fares low.
