There are many sites that offer both information (like Destination 360) and booking engines (like Sidestep, Kayak, Travelocity, etc.. Other sites to consider would be VirtualTourist.com and TripAdvisor as examples.

Hotels.com offers many options but understand that they may only provide information on hotels that pay them a fee to list themselves and some hotels do not participate in some of these booking engines.

you don't need a travel agent. you need to show up and ask around to locals about what to do there and do it. You can't figure out everything from a desktop
