| Some earlier thread post asked, "how do you find a good travel agent?" I think the first key is getting an agent who also loves to travel. That would be the person that is most honest about the places they have actually had a chance to see. Finding someone who will not take advantage of you as a traveler. I am a travel agent and the business is fun and exciting but at the same time you are providing a service and you have to be mindful of that. I would love an opportunity to be your agent and help all of you out with travel. You may contact me via email. I also customize and book trips aside from the online traveler who would rather speak to someone. Good luck finding an agent or give me a try, I will take great care of you. |

| I do not thing that the good travel agent should have traveled all over the world. To me it is all about good organization and knowledge of visa restrictions and processes that should be observed abroad, being in time for me. |

| I agree with you, Relaxforless, that finding someone who will not take advantage of you is one of the troubles that people should guard one's self against in getting a good travel agent. For this, it's still best to look around for offers before making the final choice. |

| Senior Member | I still believe the 2 best criteria for selecting an agent or specialist are: 1. Someone that makes themselves accessible at any time to research/plan & book travel. Having an agent that is generally not accessible leads to unanswered questions and unnecessary confusion. 2. Someone with credibility and honesty. Having an agent that can say "been there, done that" and that can prove it is re-assuring. Having an agent that is looking out for your best interests is important. As an example, if one were to refer a person to the internet to book air travel as it is less expensive than going thru a travel agency, then I would consider the agent is looking out for my best interests. The same goes for an agent that provides options or alternatives. (I've only been to a little over 70 countries and 50+ cruises so far and but manage to answer questions and discuss travel much easier than those that have limited travel experiences. :-) TS __________________ The Travel Slut® "Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere!"
