Default Travel Internet start up -

Hi, I am trying to find out what the profit margins are on international flights are - typically - on an online travel website, Last minute generally charge 10 pounds commission on a one way transatlantic flight - how much of this roughly translates into profit ?
I have being receiving varying answers and was wondering if an industry expert would be able to give me a more precise answer.
Cheers, Oisin

hi Oisin,

From what I can gather sites like Travelocity, Orbitz and Expedia only make money on things such as hotels, and car rentals but not on actual flights which is why the charge the small fee commission which is whole profit.

Thumbs up Re: Travel Internet start up -

Travel agencies earn their money by receiving a commission on the base fare of the ticket. The commission they charge for international flights is 8% and 10% for domestic US flights.

hope this helps
