There has gotta be a way, to get from Canada to the UK...............has to be. Either, England or Ireland, take a ship up to Iceland or Greenland, or one that goes straight up then down (avoid the curvature of the earth................does water have that curvature? thats why planes dont fly straight from New York to Beijing, they fly over the North Pole) Anyone here of this? How would a guy get the whole world around, without taking a flight.................Russia to Alaska is easy......they got ferries or kayaks or whatever.....then down to North America, but how does one go East to end up in the UKs West without flying? are there freight ships that still take people? Possible?

Good question, Morgan. Actually, I know the Cunard cruise line does regular transatlantic crossings on their Queen Mary 2 vessel, both westbound and eastbound. Here's a schedule which includes to and from ports, it appears a typical trip lasts 6-8 days. I also know a few cruise lines specialize in world cruises. Since I'm on their page, the Cunard cruise line and their Queen Elizabeth ship do world cruises, one of them being a monstrocity 90-day cruise that begins and ends in New York. I'm sure other lines do these kind of excursions as well. Are you thinking of taking a cruise around the world? If so then my hat's off to ya! Take lots of pics and let us know how it goes.

Joe, cheers. Thats great. I will do more looking, that looks like too "classy" an adventure for a backpacker bum like me. EBS Fares from $1,399 DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANM!!!!! Thats awesome dude. That is EXACTLY what I have been searching for for MONTHS!!! Well, here is the plan, I was planning on doing it this year...........I am in China right now............so here is the thing, the world seems so small, and, as much as I love flying, it is getting a little too "pop culture" for me. So, heading back to school, and gonna rest for like a year or two. My plan is, and this is gonna take a bit.....................North America to England...........from England hella easy to get down to italy greece, then morocco........then across the north of africa by bus or train.............go through Egypt to Kuwait.............and try and find a ferry that goes thorugh (or mabye Iraq will be calmer then) go up through Nepal back to Tibet (Tibet is great by the way) up to Russia...................then across to Alaska by ferry............I could go down..........rest in Canada.................head down to South America, and then ...........with the website you sent....................hitch a boat over to Australia...................... Kind of somehting I wanna do........I have only visited like 3 continents.........4 if Dominican counts as South America..........................so, need to get to Africa and Austaralia...........and further down to South America...............and flying is just so..................regular.....what do ya think? anyone done this? Antarctica will wait until I am in my 40's I think.

Sounds like a fantastic trip, Morgan. All I can suggest is that you get a nice rough plan of how the trip will go and leave room for improvisation and the occasional section taking longer than you intended. But it sounds like you're doing that by taking Europe "hella easy" and resting in Canada. That way if other parts run long you can always catch up on those easy sections. I agree, if you have the means and the time, why fly? You can only see so much when you're 30,000 feet in the air. Clounds look the same everywhere. Good luck and keep one hand on that camera.

Good tips, World Trecker. And yeah, I agree that trip sounds awesome. I've never done anything close to it (2 continents, a handful of countries) but would love to one of these days. I know a friend of a friend who is, with a friend, going to sail around the world on their own sail boat. Here's their website. The freakin' trip is, as scheduled, going to last like 2.5 years! But the way they're going about it is a lot closer to how it sounds you'd like to go about it (more down to earth and "roughing it" instead of lounging on a luxury liner).

There is one way to cross the atlantic by regular ferry, although its by no means easy. You would probably be better off using a cruise ship or even contacting the container lines to see if they can offer you anything. However a regular ferry route exists. From the UK it would be Aberdeen-Shetland-Iceland-Greenland-Canada. I cant post a link but take a look at the visit shetland website there is information on there about it. Good Luck!!

I guess this is sort of the same, but kind of different so I want to see if anyone has suggests for me. :) I am in Australia, and eventually I need to get back home to Canada. I know I could get on a cruise for a shit load of money but I only get a one way trip so thats kind of a crappy deal. I'd be willing to pay maybe 2300 or so but I dont think I can find a cruise for that cheap. I've been flying since I was a really little girl, and by myself on planes since I was 11 and recently I've developed a fear of flying. When I came to Australia I had my boyfriend with me and I just loaded up on anxiety pills and slept on him but on my way back he won't be there, plus my fear is worse everyday. Is there any options for me? Haha, do you think I could get a job on a cruise liner for only one way? They wouldnt even have to pay me, just let me work for the ride! ahaha Or, does someone want to come on the plane with me for my ride home??? ahah

Hi - I've tried looking on the 'visit shetland' website but cannot find ferry route from England to Canada via Iceland etc. I can get as far as Iceland by ferry but the tracks stop there. I don't want to fly and can't afford to cruise it. Anyone know of any ferry routes from Iceland to Canada? Cheers.

I am trying to do the same thing (travel from Europe => N. America without airplane) Can someone please post more info on how to get past Iceland? I am researching and will do the same. (note that there are oversee options via Canary Islance and St. Lucia via private sailing ship, but that is for another post). -Jonathan
