One of my favourite places to stay is London's South Bank. You have the usual top attractions plus an addictive festive atmosphere. Try taking a flight on the London Eye, if you can afford to treat yourself why not try a private capsule with friends. You’ll get to enjoy mulled wine and mince pies or Winter Pimms and chocolate truffles. Trafalgar Square has a huge Christmas tree, and winter ice rinks spring up all over the place - Hyde Park, Hampton Court Palace and the Natural History Museum are just a few. Theatre at Christmas is full of festive spirit and offers an array of productions. Whether you’re visiting with children or having a romantic break with a partner, they’ll be a pantomine or West End musical to amuse you. If you fancy starting on your Christmas shopping then try the Oxo Tower building and Gabriel’s Wharf, you’ll find contemporary jewellery, fashion, cafes and restaurants

I love London, but I don't think it's a great place to spend Christmas. It's never cold enough for snow but it's too cold to spend any decent amount of time outside. Oxford St becomes a nightmare from the end of November and the weather pushes everyone inside pubs where one can never find a seat let alone hold a conversation. Out in the country is a far better place to spend Christmas, the pace is slower the weather is more tolerable and when snow does eventually fall, it's magical. Really though I am not a fan of a northern hemisphere Christmas, I prefer to spend my time soaking up the sun as well as the festive spirit. Parties with friends and barbecues on the beach are my ideal way to celebrate Christmas and herald in the new year. London is best enjoyed in Spring while the air is still crisp the tourists stay away and everyone is in lovely mood of anticipation of the summer to come...

Whether you’re a walker or a wanderer, a strider or a stroller, London is perfect for seeing the sights on foot. Navigate city streets and markets or escape the hustle and bustle by ambling through parks and along the river.
