| There's much to do in Florida all year long and if your plans bring you to Tampa during January, February, or March, here's a heads up on three annual events that are guaranteed to blow your socks off. On January 28, the Gasparilla pirate invasions takes place with a parade along with music, games, and festivities downtown where the parade ends. Be prepared, as there are thousands in attendance milling around decoratively clad pirates and their ladies. Fun for kids and adults and if you're lucky, you'll walk away with some treasure like multiple strands of souvenir beads, thanks to the pirates! February 9 through 20 brings the annual Florida State Fair to Tampa. This event is enormous, so allow plenty of time to see all the exhibits, ride the rides, and chow down on some delicious food and goodies. Most important, wear comfortable shoes! From March 1 through the 11, the annual Strawberry Festival takes place in Plant City which is a 30 minute drive from Tampa and a little over an hour's drive from Orlando. Needless to say, along with exhibits, flowers, rides, crafts, and lots of good food, the star attraction is the fresh strawberry shortcake topped with mounds of whipped cream. Local berries are harvested and make their way to the festival each year, so don't miss out on this sweetest of events.
