| hi there, Some of the most popular Montpelier attractions include: - The Vermont State House located at 115 State Street. The State House is gold-domed modeled after the temple of Theseus in Athens and the impressive columns were quarried in nearby Barre. You can take guided tours of the Montpelier State House every half hour on Monday through Saturday through the summer months (late June to mid-October). - The statue of Ethan Allen. - The Vermont Historical Society which features a museum on the first floor where you can see intriguing artifacts. Hope this helps Vacationbuddy

| Also, Rock of Ages granite quarry (closed in winter but visitors center is open year around - you can watch craftsmen makes monuments and even sandblast your own souvenir) . Believe it or not, some of the best statues in the state are in local cemeteries such as Hope Cemetery where Italian sculptors brought in by Rock of Ages in the early 1900's created monuments for deceased family members. The tradition continues today with markers shaped like a stock car, soccer ball, etc. There is a tower in Hubbard Park with a great view. Morse Farm sugarworks (maple syrup producer) is about 10 minutes from downtown. Drive about 15 minutes up I-89 to Waterbury, exit 10, and take Route 100 north to take Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory tour, Cabot Cheese outlet store, Lake Champlain Chocolates tore, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, and Ziemke Glass Blowing. Route 100 continues north a few miles to the village of Stowe which is well worth a stop also. Lots to see and do there. The ski area is about 7 miles outside the village and there are a number of activities there year around. |
