I have visited Virginia last October and it was a wine month. As far as I know October is one of the best months to visit Virginia, and that's why I have planned during October. Really the weather was awsome and I felt very comfortable. You said you are going in December or January and I think in January the temperature will be little bit cold. Some of the best places I have visited are Williamsburg, virginia beach, Sandbridge beach and Richmond. The beautiful city of Williamsburg is a perfect holiday destination for all types of vacations. If you still looking for a place to stay here, then visit Williamsburg hotels page to get more details. Some of the Williamsburg's most popular tourist attractions are Busch Gardens, Water country USA, Jamestown settlement, Colonial Williamsburg and wineries. If you are a beach lover then Virginia beach is a paradise for you. I have visited Virginia beach twice during summer and it was a wonderful time. There are many things to do and I liked the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. If you need info. on Virginia beach accomodation, just visit Virginia beach hotels page. The sandbridge-beach is a popular beach and located in the southern part of Virginia Beach. It's a favourite beach for all visitors of Virginia and for me too. Hope you too like this beach and have real fun!

I've been to Virginia several times and last year I visited in January...it was REALLY cold. I wouldn't suggest the beach but Loudoun County which includes the towns of Leesburg, Middleburg & Sterling is a great place to visit during the colder season. It's about 35 minutes from DC which is great. They are considered DC Wine Country which during the winter months I'm not sure how many wineries are open to the public but you can definitly stop in for a few wine tastings. They have so many historical areas and tours you can be part of. It's a great place for the history buff. There is a great historical itinerary Loudoun Tourism put together that is on their site if you want to check it out. visitloudoun.org/political_itinerary/ Beautiful place to just relax and enjoy. Hope this helps.

Here are some places you can visit: - The Jamestown Settlement and see a full-scale replica of James Fort and 17th-century ships. - Colonial Williamsburg is also popular and it's basically a recreated colonial village with working artisans in period costume. - Visit some famous homes such as Monticello home, Ash Lawn plantation and James Madison's home

Stretching from the salty air of the coast to the peaks and valleys of the mountains, Virginia offers so many things to enjoy without spending a bundle of money. Some of the nation's most scenic drives, fascinating historic sites, delightful small towns and other unique attractions are free to explore, making Virginia an affordable choice for a day trip, weekend getaway or family vacation. Including just a sampling of some of the best free things to do in Virginia, the following list highlights my top ten picks. Virginia's Scenic Byways - Various Locations The Virginia Beach Boardwalk - Virginia Beach, Virginia The Appalachian National Scenic Trail - Western Virginia Arlington National Cemetery - Arlington, Virginia Monuments and Memorials - Arlington, Virginia The Crooked Road - Virginia's Heritage Music Trail Torpedo Factory Art Center - Alexandria, Virginia National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center - Chantilly, Virginia well these are some of the best places to go to!
