Washington DC

Washington DC is the heartbeat of the entire United States nation. Attractions here aren't hard to come by, it's getting it all into one trip that's the problem. Stop by the National Mall and see the Declaration of Independence at the National Archives. Sit at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Walk along the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Enjoy all the US Capitol has to offer.

Default WW 2 Memorial

I can't find a clear location for where the WW 2 Memorial is. I'm taking my 84 year old dad there on Saturday, he's going in his dress uniform. It should be an exceptional day, but I need it's location.
Thanks,
Besure

The World War II Memorial, which opened to the public on April 29, 2004, is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C,
at what was once the Rainbow Pool, centered between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.

I`m sure your father will love to see that, the heart of the solemn monument is an oval-shaped pool complete with fountains.
Granite pillars that circle the pool and plaza are labeled with the names of each U.S. state and territory that contributed to the war effort.
A wall on the monument's west side is emblazoned with 4,000 gold stars representing the 400,000 Americans that were killed in the war.
Domed pavilions labeled "Atlantic" and "Pacific" mark the north and south edges of the monument and draw attention to the conflict's global reach.

Directions/Parking: Farragut West is the closest Metro stop. From the corner of 17th and I streets, walk south on 17th. The memorial will be on your right.
I hope this helps, enjoy your day out with your father.

Thumbs up Re: WW 2 Memorial

Hi ftuley,

Your information helped Besure out.

I'm passing along his messege:
The information was priceless. My dad was in his Dress Blue Navy Uniformwhich still fits at neatly 84 years old. He was literally a celebrity for several hours.....It's got to be one of the proudest days of this life. Joe Nygaard

Besure's comment:

Ftuley's information was spot on.My father was in full Dress Blues Navy and was a celebrity for several hours. People came up to him to thank him and ask him a number of questions, expressing thanks for his service. It was a wondrous day, blueskies, high 40's and memories to last forever. Thanks so much for theinfo......it was as special a day as one could ever hope for. Besure
