Hi there,

The best known underground dwelling is the Cave of the Mounds which is found in the south-central part of the state and it is relatively easy to reach from both Milwaukee and Madison.

In Wisconsin caves, you can expect to see some dazzling stalactites and stalagmites and bats and it is an experience you will not forget soon.

When exploring the caves, I would also suggest to go with a guide if you are not familiar with the area. It's also a good idea to bring some supplies such as a helmet, flashlights, water, knee pads and gloves.

Hope this helps

Default Caves in Wisconsin

Cave of the Mounds was the first place that came to mind...it also has a lovely garden and gift shop to enjoy too, besides the cave tours.

Crystal Cave is the longest cave in Wisconsin. It's located in Spring Valley, in Western Wisconsin, closer to the Twin Cities and Eau Claire. It's tour season is April through October.

You also have Kickapoo Indian Caverns in Wauzeka. The show cave offers guided tours in the spring, summer, and early fall, along with some interesting history lessons.

There are many private caves worth seeking out, southwestern Wisconsin is riddled with them, Cave of the Mounds is the most popular of course.
