Door County itinerary

we're planning a vacation to Door County and i was hoping if you could suggest activities to add to our itinerary? we love the outdoors and hiking is something we enjoy..any ideas?

If you love the outdoors there are no less than five state parks in Door County Wisconsin, and they are excellent places to do some hiking and cross-country skiing, among other things.

For instance, at the Rock Island State Park on Washington Island, you can visit the state's oldest lighthouse when you're not taking to the nature trails. Also, you can visit the rugged Lake Michigan shoreline at Whitefish Dunes State Park where you can do some exploring.

Also, the other Door County state parks include Peninsula, which offers terrific nature programs, and Newport and Potawatomi, both of which are ideal destinations if you'd like to enjoy camping.

Another thing to add to your itinerary includes seeing some caves such as the ones in Cave Point County Park.

The Cana lighthouse is nice, country drive all the way there, everything in Door county is relatively close. We camped on Rock Island and it is a great place for hiking. To get to Rock Island you have to ferry onto Washington Island with your car, then drive to the northern tip,from there, take a boat without your car to the island. An old boathouse from the early 1900's greets you.

Don't miss a fish boil while you're there. It's a big tradition in Door County, and includes some of the freshest Great Lakes fish you'll ever taste. And the cherries are really great here too, especially this time of year.
