New Orleans Hotels

Despite all the damage sustained during the devastating Hurricane Katrina in 2005, a majority of New Orleans hotels remain operational and the French quarter hotels were virtually untouched.  Some of New Orleans is still in cleanup mode, so it’s best to check in advance to see what options you are limited to outside of the French quarter.

Luxury Hotels in New Orleans / French Quarter Hotels

The major five star luxury hotels in New Orleans are the Ritz Carlton with its sumptuous accommodations and the best spa in the city.  One of only two five star hotels in the city, you can experience the finest in New Orleans dining at the incredible five star restaurant Victor’s or enjoy high tea in the parlor.  The Windsor is another of the superior high end luxury hotels.  The location is excellent too, near the French Quarter and Harrah’s Casino.

The other high end hotels in New Orleans include the W Hotel for the hip and trendy traveler.  The W is one of the New Orleans boutique hotels with a modern touch.  It also offers some interesting vacation packages, especially during summer when occupancy is low.

In the arts district you can find more New Orleans boutique hotels like the Ambassador with its hardwood flooring and wrought iron poster beds.  It’s close by the galleries and walking distance to the French Quarter.  There is also the Pelham Hotel, nearby the convention center which boasts European decorated rooms, some with four poster beds.

In the French Quarter, you can find some of the best historic hotels New Orleans offers.  The Bourbon Street hotels are especially desirable if you want to be in the center of the New Orleans nightlife or have a good seat during one of the many New Orleans events and festivals, like the world famous Mardi Gras.  The Wyndham Hotel, Royal Sonesta and French Market Inn are on the top of the list for the historic hotels New Orleans offers.

Garden District Hotels

More New Orleans boutique hotels can be found in the Garden District, an historical area with a trolley car access to the French Quarter. The Pontchartrain Hotel is a luxury hotel with historic charm.  Enjoy the antiques inside and the oak tree canopy outside.  The Maison Hotel is another historic Creole building with 120 rooms to enjoy!

Bed and Breakfast New Orleans hotels

New Orleans is steeped in history and there is no better way to enjoy it than the excellent bed and breakfast hotels.  A few noteworthy B&Bs New Orleans offers are the Elysian fields Inn Bed and Breakfast, located five blocks from the French Quarter and the Melrose Mansion Bed and Breakfast voted one of the most romantic bed and breakfasts  in the country.

Discounted New Orleans Hotels

The hotels in Metarie are closer to the airport and convenient for a quick stopover.  This area is in between the airport and French Quarter and good for discounted hotels.  The Four Point by Sheraton is right on the Mississippi River.  The Sheraton is upscale and full service, featuring a pool, restaurant bar and café.  You can also find the Days Inn, Ramada and Holiday Inn in Metarie for discounted stays.

There are also hotels by the convention center, which is just blocks from the French Quarter.  Best Western Parc St. Charles  is located blocks from all the major attractions and has a fitness room, Jacuzzi and convenient to the convention center.  Hotel Le Cirque is a hip property that is walking distance to the Convention Center.  One of the new hip and zen New Orleans boutique hotels, Hotel le Cirque has modern decoration and an on site spa.  During Mardi Gras you can find views of up to 23 different parades.

You can also find cheap hotels in New Orleans outside the French Quarter like the best Western and Choice hotel chains.  But for the hotels New Orleans offers, pay a little extra and stay near the French Quarter.  There is nothing quite like the treat of walking out the door of your hotel to this European charm.  Try the hotel discounts in off season June – August and you can find some of the best discounted prices on hotels in New Orleans.

There are so many New Orleans hotels to choose from, you are sure to find something to entertain and delight you on your next New Orleans vacation.
