Mt. Hood Hotels

The Mt Hood ski area is popular for so many reasons. In addition to the wonderful groomed runs that attract skiers and snowboarders each winter, there are great areas for sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and more. In the summer, Ski Bowl is a summer-sport-lovers paradise, with a running chairlift that takes guests up the mountain to enjoy all the fun. Mountain biking, hiking and more can all be enjoyed. Whether you come in the winter or summer, there are a number of great places to stay, including the Mt Hood Lodge, the Mt Hood Inn, and others, including various Mt Hood cabins.

Mt Hood Inn is one of the most popular places to stay on the mountain, rain or shine. The Inn is basic, but pine furniture and fixtures make it feel like a true mountain getaway. Right next door, the Mt Hood Brew Pub, Mt Hood’s best lounge and brewery, serves up microbrews and other favorite snacks throughout the year. The Mt Hood Inn is located on the west side of Government Camp along the highway, and prices tend to be competitive. Some of the rooms feature their own Jacuzzi tubs, along with refrigerators and microwaves.  The Mt. Hood Inn is one of the more expensive places to stay on the mountain, with rooms generally being between $100 and $200 per night.

Mt Hood Lodge is a vacation rental home located right on Mt Hood. This is a great option for families or groups who want to spend some time at Mt Hood as well as enjoy each other’s company. With multiple bedrooms, the Mt Hood Lodge is able to sleep at least ten guests, and also has its own Jacuzzi tub. The home also has its own kitchen, which is ideal for groups who plan to stay for a week or more. The lodge has a three-night minimum for booking, so it is a great deal if you plan to stay multiple nights.  Depending on the length of your potential stay and the number of bedrooms, condos and homes will range in price from $500 to $1200 per night.

In addition to lodges and inn, there are also a number of excellent Mt Hood cabins available for rent. Most cabins and smaller bungalow-type accommodations on the mountain are quite nice. Many feature their own fireplaces and Jacuzzi tubs, as well as their own kitchens. Prices for the Mt Hood cabins do vary depending on the season and the weather, but it is a good idea to book your cabin stay well in advance of your vacation.  Cabins are less expensive than condos, with rates generally between $70 and $200 per night, depending on the quality of your cabin and its size.

Timberline Lodge is of course another place to stay on Mt Hood. Accommodations at the lodge are some of the most basic on the mountain, but the advantage of the lodge is its proximity to the ski slopes. Many of the rooms have shared bathrooms, almost like a youth hostel, but if skiing or snowboarding is your main attraction you won’t likely be spending much time in your room, anyway. The Timberline Lodge also has its own restaurant and lounge, which is open in the evening and is a warm and welcoming place to relax after a day in the snow.

If you do plan to stay at a rental house or cabin during your ski trip, you should ideally be traveling with a group or at least as a couple.  Rental homes are large and can be expensive for just a few people, but are well suited to families or large groups.  Although renter's insurance is not necessary, it is a good idea to read your specific condo or house contract careful to be aware of what you are responsible for in the case of an emergency.  Most rental properties carry their own insurance for visitors, however.
