Georgetown Hotels

Historical Georgetown is thought by many to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, towns in South Carolina. With an American history dating to early settlements in the 16th century, Georgetown is a favorite vacation destination among history buffs. Georgetown hotels, like hotels in Charleston and Aiken, are somewhat smaller than the mammoth resorts of Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head. Folks heading to a hotel in Georgetown will find a number of small inns and bed and breakfast hotels, and plenty of them will have their own unique charm and specific period decorations.

One of the best known Georgetown SC hotels is the DuPre House found right in the center of the historic district. The structure for this Georgetown hotel dates to 1740, when it was originally built as a private home. Although there are only 5 units, each room has something special about it and the inn is only a few minute’s walk from a number of local restaurants and some good shopping. Breakfast is included in a stay here, and families should note that children are actually not welcome. For some of the older Georgetown hotels, this is actually typical in that owners tend to be somewhat protective of their antiques.

The Live Oak Inn is another great choice for travelers hoping to find an historic hotel in Georgetown. Not only was this Georgetown hotel built in 1905, but guests of the hotel will find an oak tree on the grounds that is over 700 years old. This is another of the smaller Georgetown SC hotels and has just 5 units, with rooms costing between $115 and $150. Breakfast is included in the cost of the Live Oaks Inn, and rooms all have their own private bathrooms, air conditioning and television sets.

For Georgetown hotels with a little more space than some of the smaller inns, travelers can head to the Hampton Inn Marina near the Georgetown Harbor. Not only does this hotel in Georgetown feature views of the water from many of its 98 rooms, but costs are moderate. Some of the suites at this Georgetown hotel feature two-person Jacuzzi tubs and some also have private fireplaces. The hotel is walking distance from the harbor and walking distance from downtown Georgetown with its shops and restaurants.

Travelers looking for Georgetown SC hotels which accept pets might try the Jameson Inn near the Georgetown Marina, which is one of the few hotels in the area that accepts pets (due to the antique nature of many of the buildings and the furniture within). Bringing your pet along will cost guests an additional $10 per night, and prices for a standard room are around $100 per night. The room also features a complimentary continental breakfast each morning served buffet-style and is within walking distance of the center of town for walking tours of the historical district and easy access to shopping and restaurants. The busiest season for hotels in Georgetown is between June and August, and rates will be highest at this time.
