There are plenty of phenomenal “megaprojects” implemented in Dubai. In fact, the term is one consistently used for new ventures in Dubai. One of the most impressive of all Dubai luxury hotels is the Burj Al Arab Hotel. The Burj Al Arab is considered the most prestigious of all Dubai hotels to date. From personal butlers appointed for each suite to complimentary helicopter and Rolls Royce guest transfers, everything in between boasts one of the highest standards of affluence, not only in Dubai, but throughout the Middle East.
Strikingly modern architectural designs, such as the
shape of the billowing sail the Burj Al Arab is designed
after, are an increasingly common sight in the UAE. Though
the Burj Al Arab Hotel is one of the most ambitious structural
designs in Dubai, there’s another very notable addition
to the city skyline getting plenty of worldwide attention.
“Burj” is also affixed to one of the most
incredible and enterprising designs in Dubai, the Burj
Dubai Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the world.
Taller even than the Petronas
Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the Burj Tower’s official
height is being kept under wraps for now. “Burj”
, used in the Burj Al Arab Hotel name, literally means
“tower” in Arabic. Originally, the more
than 1800-foot design was initiated for the Melbourne
Grollo Tower but plans ended due to enormous building
costs. Later in 2003, the plans were reignited and
revamped by architect Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings
and Merrill in Chicago
and used to design and build the Burj Dubai Tower.
The Burj Dubai design was inspired by the Hymenocallis flower which is found around India, UAE and the surrounding region. Only extremely high performance materials, much like the ones used in the Burj Al Arab, were used in the tower. Exceptional materials like textured steel panels, reflective glazing and aluminum are designed to resist extremely high temperatures typical in the UAE. Burj Dubai represents the role Dubai plays on the world stage. Situated an equal distance from Asia and Europe and sitting at the concourse of the Middle East and India, Burj Dubai also physically represents its position in a growing global market.
Burj Dubai is slated to be the home of both the Armani Hotel Dubai, for the most lavish of UAE vacations, and the ultra-distinguished Armani Residences, all designed with haute couture Italian furnishings. The Armani Hotel will open in 2008 and feature extravagant surroundings and sleek amenities for guests on holidays. The hotel will be the forerunner in a new chain actualized by a joint venture between Giorgio Armani and Emaar Hotels and Resorts. The exclusive Burj Dubai Armani Hotel will feature a sumptuous spa, multiple restaurants featuring a wide range of culinary specials and 175 guests suites together totaling almost 450,000 square feet. The Armani residences comprise almost 150 private and furnished luxury units incorporated alongside the Armani Hotel.
