Whistler Canada - Peak Lookout Run
Whistler Canada, in the province of British Columbia, is one of the top ski locations in North America. Boasting more lifts, ski terrain and vertical than any other North American resort, Whistler Ski Resort is a must-visit for ski-aholics. Not only does Whistler Blackcomb provide great skiing, the snowboarding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and heli-skiing satisfy those looking for a different kind of adventure. Whistler village, the quaint chalet-styled shopping, sleeping and living area is worth seeing in itself. It’s no wonder that Whistler Canada was given the opportunity to host many of the alpine events for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Though the town itself is called Whistler, there are actually two resorts that make up this ski paradise. Whistler Mountain has 4,927 ft of vertical and over 100 marked runs. There are also over 100 runs available by helicopter access only. A cafeteria, restaurant and gift shops are located on the top of the peak, in case you don’t get your fill in the village. Blackcomb Mountain has about 200 more feet of vertical than Whistler Mountain and a similar number of marked runs. There is a nice restaurant near the peak that is worth visiting for the view, even if you aren’t skiing. Both Whistler Ski Resort and Blackcomb offer great skiing, so take your pick or try both. Both resorts are operated by Intrawest, so you can use your pass to access both areas.
Skiing Whistler Blackcomb is not the only tourist attraction in Whistler. Whistler village offers great shopping and dining for après skiing Whistler (or instead of!). Stop at a coffee shop for a warm drink as you wander the charming village streets. During the summer, find a restaurant with a patio (it won’t be difficult) and enjoy the mountain- view with drink in hand.
The Whistler Museum and Archives Society is a tourist attraction in Whistler often overlooked in the crowds of skiing Whistler. This interesting museum exhibits the Native Indian cultures that have been living in the Whistler area for centuries. There are also re-creations of early British settlements in the village.
Golf Whistler is a tourist attraction in Whistler that is just beginning to gain a reputation. Set in the picturesque valley surrounded by lakes and snow-covered peaks, Golf Whistler holds four of Canada’s top 100 golf courses.
If all of that skiing Whistler and golf has got you tired and sore, a day at the spa could be the perfect remedy. Many of the top Whistler hotels offer massage, aromatherapy, body wraps, steam baths and skin care services.
If you’ve got some money to spend, there are plenty of opportunities in Whistler Canada to indulge.
