Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Revelstoke visitors can expect to enjoy some of the best skiing and snowboarding in all of Canada. Opened in 2008, this expansive mountain resort offers the biggest vertical drop in North America, not to mention some fantastic gladed areas, an impressive collection of inviting alpine bowls, and acres upon acres of thrilling fall line skiing. There are more than 3,000 total skiable acres at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort in British Columbia, and if that isn't enough to keep you happy, you can always arrange a cat, heli, or backcountry adventure. Few resorts in the world compare to Revelstoke when it comes to the cat, heli, and backcountry skiing possibilities, which is one of the main reasons why this relatively new resort has wasted little time putting itself on the winter sports map.

The Revelstoke Ski Resort is one of the largest ski resorts in the world, and in case you are wondering about the vertical drop, it is an impressive 5,620 feet. The resort already rivals other large North American resorts such as Vail and Panorama in size and plans are set for expansion in the near future. There are more than 50 trails for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort, and most of these trails are intermediate and advanced-level runs. The longest run is no fewer than nine and a half miles long, and if you want to ski among the trees, there are thirteen gladed areas to choose from. Complementing the gladed areas are five bowls, three of which are found out of bounds and can be reached by way of snowcat. Many Revelstoke Mountain Resort visitors opt to venture out of bounds, and there is very good reason for this.

The Revelstoke Mountain Resort is the only mountain resort in the world that offers gondola, cat, and heli skiing infrastructures in one centralized hub. Special packages are available that include cat, heli, and backcountry skiing, and while these packages aren't cheap, they are worth every penny. Snowcats and helicopters allow skiers and snowboarders to access remote spots outside of the resort's boundaries. At these spots, pristine runs await, and since you and your friends will probably be the only souls in sight, making fresh tracks in the powder is likely to be the name of the game. Approximately 40 to 60 feet of light and fluffy snow blankets the region on an annual basis, and this is especially good news for powder hounds who are planning a Revelstoke visit.

If you want to arrange some cat, heli, and backcountry adventures at Revelstoke, all you have to do is visit the Outdoors Center at the Nelsen Lodge. At this center, it is also possible to arrange skiing and snowboarding lessons if you aren't yet ready for out-of-bounds excursions. The Nelsen Lodge is once again the place to go for visitors who are interested in renting some equipment upon arrival. Top brand skis and snowboards can be rented at the rental shop, and if you have your own gear, you might drop by to get it tuned.

When planning your visit to the remarkable Revelstoke Mountain Resort near the small British Columbia city of Revelstoke, you might look to take advantage of the numerous package deals that are out there. These packages include things such as your lift tickets, heli and cat skiing adventures, and a stay at one of the Revelstoke hotels. There are even packages that include all your meals, and if you can't make it to Revelstoke in the winter, then you might book a golf package for the warmer season.

For those who are interested in booking a stay at one of the Revelstoke hotels, the Nelsen Lodge is arguably the place to start. This lodge at the base of the resort has some very enticing suites that are equipped with such things as fireplaces, kitchens, flat-screen TVs, and laundry facilities. If you can't quite swing the rates at the Nelsen Lodge, one of the other Revelstoke hotels that is popular with visitors is the more affordable Sandman Inn Revelstoke. This hotel near the resort features 171 comfortable rooms with kitchenettes, and when you're not relaxing in your room, you can swim in the two indoor pools or enjoy a meal at the 24-hour restaurant.
