City of Burnaby

The City of Burnaby is the third largest city in all of British Columbia, behind only Surrey and Vancouver. It is located directly to the east of the city and can be easily reached by car or SkyTrain in less than a half-hour. There is a wide array of things to do in Burnaby from shopping, dining, and checking out area attractions such as the Burnaby Village Museum, to enjoying the countless outdoor activities close by. Annual events like the Burnaby Blues Festival are also highlights on the events calendar every year. The Metropolis at Metrotown is easily one of the most popular attractions in Burnaby, featuring over 450 stores, a massive food court, a ten-screen movie theatre, and much more. There are other malls in the city such as the Crystal Mall and Brentwood Town Centre Mall, but The Metropolis is the best of all of them. Another great shopping hotspot is the Heights neighborhood, located in north Burnaby. Here you will find everything from eclectic cafes and funky bars, to independent bookstores and art galleries. For a more relaxed pace and a cool atmosphere, be sure to head over to the Heights for an afternoon or evening.

The Burnaby Village Museum take guests back into time to let them see what life was like in this part of British Columbia as far back as the 1920s. There is an ice cream parlor, a blacksmith’s shop, and a number of displays and exhibits that are both interactive and exciting. Visiting the Burnaby Village Museum makes for a nice day out with the family in Vancouver.

The Burnaby Blues Festival is an extremely popular, annual event that brings together some of the biggest acts in the industry. Past acts have included the likes of Smokey Robinson, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and Tinsley Ellis, to name just a few. It is held in the middle of August at Deer Lake Park. There are two stages (the Lake Stage and the Garden Stage). A variety of regional and national acts light up both until the early morning hours at this highly anticipated event in the City of Burnaby.

The Burnaby Art Gallery is another alluring destination in the city, featuring over 4,000 works of art that focus primarily on Canadian artists. The gardens and parks in the city offer a wide spectrum of things to do in Burnaby, from outdoor games and activities, to simply relaxing and enjoying the good life.
