Victoria BC Hostels

Victoria BC hostels provide visitors to British Columbia's capital city with some very low-cost lodging options. This means that a Vancouver Island escape doesn't have to break the bank. It's not exactly all about the savings when it comes to the Victoria BC hostels, however. Many travelers, particularly those of the more youthful crowd, appreciate the social atmospheres that hostels provide in general.

Singling out the best hostels in Victoria BC isn't difficult, as the city isn't home to very many. In fact, there are only three of them. All offer considerable quality and plenty of value for the money. Perhaps the best of all is the Ocean Island Inn (pictured), which boasts a delightfully funky appeal, not to mention a variety of room choices. Guests can select from private rooms of various sizes, and some of these rooms have TVs and private bathrooms. The dorm rooms are the cheapest, as they are shared units that lack much in the way of frills, and those who are interested can inquire about the budget-friendly vacation rental suites. They have kitchens that can be used for preparing money-saving meals. The facilities at the Ocean Island Backpackers Inn include a fun common lounge area, a communal guest kitchen, a restaurant, coin-operated laundry, and a tour desk. All ages are known to frequent this hostel at 791 Pandora Avenue, and it's because of the wonderful atmosphere, the good room choices, and the central location.

Another option when it comes to the Victoria BC hostels is the HI-Victoria Hostel, which enjoys a great location at 516 Yates Street. A heritage building houses this money-saving lodging establishment, and it doesn't take long to walk to any number of downtown area attractions, such as the Royal BC Museum, and the hostel is extremely close to Chinatown. As is true at the Ocean Island Inn, Wi-Fi is complimentary at the HI-Victoria Hostel, and guests can take advantage of an onsite tour desk for arranging fun excursions. Also on hand are guest kitchens, and both luggage storage and security lockers provide options for storing your stuff. Most of the rooms at the HI-Victoria Hostel are dorms, but private rooms are available as well.

Rounding out the choices for Victoria BC hostels is the Turtle Hostel, which can be found at 1608 Quadra Street. An old Victorian home houses the rooms at the Turtle Hostel, and these rooms include shared dorms, private dorms, and both single and double rooms that are private and have TVs. As for the available facilities, they include luggage storage, laundry machines, and a guest kitchen. Guests can stay in touch with friends back home via the free Wi-Fi, and there is a common room with a library and a TV that can make for a good place to kick back or socialize when you're not out at one of the Victoria beaches or enjoying any other number of fun things to do in and around town.

There are some good cheap hotels in Victoria that can also come in handy when trying to save money on lodging when visiting the BC capital. As such, budget-minded travelers don't have to limit themselves to the hostels. Also worth considering are the regional camping opportunities, though camping won't put you within a short walk of downtown Victoria and everything that it has to offer. Perhaps you will follow up a few days in the city with some camping in a more natural environment. There are plenty of good parks on Vancouver Island that can be great places to camp. One of them is the Goldstream Provincial Park, which offers 159 campsites and is just ten miles from downtown Victoria.

Victoria vacations don't typically revolve around a lot of hotel time. There is too much to do and see, so hotel rooms are often used for little more than sleeping. This alone can be reason enough to book a stay at one of the hostels in Victoria. Splurge for extra amenities, and you just might not have the time to appreciate them. Plus, the money that you save by staying at a hostel versus a hotel or vacation rental can be applied towards all kinds of things, such as a Victoria whale watching excursion.
