Best Months for Whistler

The best months for Whistler travel depend upon whether or not you plan to ski, or rather are going to enjoy any one of the other activities that abound in this part of British Columbia. This resort vacation destination is known as a four-season destination because of the fact that it offers a multitude of options for things to do year round. Whistler is of course best known for its snow sports, of which skiing is top on the list. Besides skiing, guests also enjoy amazing freshwater lakes, rivers, mountains, and activities that range from whitewater rafting and repelling to hiking and golfing.

The best time of year to Visit Whistler for skiing and other downhill sports is between December and April. Most of the slopes are fully operable by the beginning of November, but this is not the best time of year for avid skiers looking for the very best conditions. November offers good snow, but generally speaking, it has not had enough time to build the proper base that an expert or even intermediate skier will expect from a ski resort destination of this level. The month of December is when the skiing becomes just about perfect. There are over 8,000 acres of skiable terrain in Whistler, and just about every single resort is teeming with avid skiers and snowboarders during this time. There are runs to suit skiers of all skill levels, as well as many opportunities for lessons and instruction if you are new to the sport.

It is important to note that the most expensive time of the year in Whistler also corresponds to the peak season for skiing. You can expect to pay top dollar for all of the major resorts and hotels, and this is especially true the closer it gets to the holiday season in the latter part of the month. After New Year’s, prices come down slightly, and you may even be able to find some compelling vacation packages that can help bring down the overall cost of your trip. February, March, and April are also amazing for skiing. The month of April is a popular time for tourists from the UK who venture to British Columbia for Easter holiday.

The months of May and June offer discounts on accommodations and activities and the weather happens to be absolutely ideal for whitewater rafting, boating, hiking, and even swimming in some of the smaller lakes. It is not until July and August that the weather is completely agreeable such that it is possible to enjoy the full breadth of activity available on Whistler’s amazing bodies of water. Golf is another favorite pastime for people traveling the British Columbia during this time of the year.

As you can see, the best months for Whistler travel truly depend upon what you expect to do on your vacation. If you absolutely know you want to ski, then you have about a six-month window from which to select your travel dates. No matter when you choose to visit this grand resort destination, you will be stunned by its natural beauty and pleased with the wide variety of fun, family-oriented activities at your disposal.
