Calgary Hotels

Finding a hotel in Calgary Alberta should be easy no matter what your traveling budget. If you are on a tight budget, there are some excellent options downtown, though the number of rooms are limited. Thanks to Calgary’s light rail system, hotels in Calgary outside of the city center are easily accessed. Most of the year, it isn’t a problem to find a hotel in Calgary Alberta upon arrival. During the Calgary Stampede in July, reservations are recommended. So, you’ll want to try to book a hotel near all of your things to do. If you’re renting a car, there are more lodging options available.
If camping appeals to you, and you plan to be in Calgary during the summer months, there are several campgrounds near the city. These campgrounds have plenty of facilities, sometimes with stores, showers, washrooms, a pool, and a laundry mat, so you won’t have to rough it too much. Camping is definitely the cheapest route for your stay in Calgary, if you can’t afford one of the Calgary hotels.
Also less expensive than Calgary hotels are hostels. There a few good ones to choose from, though they get crowded during the summer months. The YWCA offers rooms for women only, a perk being access to the pool and gym included in the price of accommodation. The University of Calgary also rents rooms from early May until the end of August. The university is serviced by the C-Train, so it’s easy to get into town.
The majority of hotels in Calgary Alberta are found along the Macleod Trail, the main road heading south from the city. Motel Village is located near the University of Calgary and is made up of over 20 motels, restaurants, stores and gas stations. The prices range from economy to mid-to upper range. Though the Motel Village is a good distance from downtown, it is linked by the C-Train and city buses.
An alternative to the hotels in Calgary are the plentiful Bed and Breakfasts. The Visitor Information Center keeps a list of the B&B’s and can help you make a reservation. The Alberta B&B Association has lists online to help you if you want to book in advance. In comparison to Calgary hotels, B&B prices are similar to that of a room in a moderately-priced hotel. Friendly hosts and other interesting guests can make a B&B a memorable place to stay.
