Nova Scotia, whose name simply means New Scotland, celebrates its Gaelic heritage in many of its place names, festivals, and attractions. Beginning in the early 1700s, settlers came in droves from Scotland and Ireland, settling on the peninsula and Cape Breton Island. The island's residents, many of whom speak Gaelic as well as English, are known for their hospitality and warm welcomes.

Living history experiences are waiting at Highland Village, while the classes and concerts at the Celtic Interpretive Centre are sure to keep your toes tapping. You also can experience the heritage of the Old World with the Antigonish Highland Games, held every July. Any time of the year, time spent at a Ceilidh, will be sure to warm your heart.
