Toronto Islands

The Toronto Islands are just one more reason why the largest city in Toronto is as great as it is. They are a series of islands in the Toronto Harbour of Lake Ontario, immediately offshore from the downtown city center. The Toronto Islands are primarily comprised of three main islands, and a variety of smaller ones. Although there are some residential areas, places such as Wards Island, Centre Island Toronto, and Algonquin Island are mainly used for public recreational purposes.
From the Toronto Islands beaches to Centreville Amusement Park to the massive music festivals that are held on Centre Island Toronto, there seems to be something going on all year round. The Toronto Islands are actually the largest urban area in North America where the use of cars is strictly prohibited. If you visit the city, you will find out that the only way to access popular destinations such as Hanlan’s Point Beach is on a Toronto Island ferry. A number of longstanding service providers offer reliable Toronto Island ferry transport. Getting to the islands is the easy part. The only difficult part of the equation will be picking what you want to do once you arrive. You can rent bicycles, quadracycles, and canoes on the islands and there are all kinds of sports fields and facilities. No matter what you are interested in doing, whether it’s playing soccer or baseball, canoeing in the Toronto Harbour, or simply meandering through the many scenic trails on places like Centre Island Toronto.
Many times Centre Island Toronto hosts large festivals. One example is when the Virgin Music Festival descended upon Toronto in September of 2009. Over 60,000 fans were carted back and forth on a Toronto Island Ferry to see the likes of Oasis, the Stereophonics, and Paul Weller. The Toronto Islands are amazing because you not only get to enjoy public recreational facilities and all of the water activities that go along with being located right on Lake Ontario, but also because there are oftentimes major performances, concerts, and festivals as well. Visitors to and residents of Toronto are able to escape the rigors of city life and commune with nature so close to the city. The ferry ride is just a couple of minutes away.
Places like the Centreville Amusement Park are perfect for a day-long getaway with the family or a group of friends. It is situated on 600 plus acres of parkland and features tons of rides, food stands, and shops. All you have to do is jump on a Toronto Island ferry to be whisked away to one of the most scenic areas on Lake Ontario, and it is only minutes outside the city. The main ferry dock is right off of Queen’s Quay by Lakeshore Boulevard and the Gardiner Expressway. There are plenty of hotels and restaurants in the city center near the docks if you need to wait on a ferry to pick you up. If you are planning a trip to Toronto, a visit to the Toronto Islands is well worth the time, and even the experience of taking the ferry from the city is fun.
