Cancun on a Budget

Anyone who is visiting Cancun on a budget should have little trouble finding ways to keep busy. After all, the main activity of choice is lounging around on the beach, and that doesn’t have to cost anything. Stay at an all inclusive resort on the beach, and you can also enjoy a variety of watersports activities at no extra cost. Snorkeling is one such activity. If your hotel doesn’t offer complementary snorkeling equipment, worry not, as several hotels and dive shops rent it out for next to nothing.

Doing a lot of shopping won’t likely be something that you are looking to do when visiting Cancun on a budget. That being said, it can be fun to peruse the goods and put your bargaining skills to the test at open-air markets like the Mercado 28. Local shopping malls can also be fun places to spend some time, even if you don’t plan on parting with a lot of money. If nothing else, they are air conditioned and can be good places to people watch.

Cancun is home to movie theaters, and it is common for these theaters to screen movies in English. They are also known to show the latest blockbusters, and when it comes down to it, the ticket prices are reasonable. Two movie theaters can be found at the Plaza de Americas mall alone. This mall is also home to a food court, so visitors can look to combine a budget-friendly meal with their movie-viewing experience.

While it can be great to explore the ruins at Chichen Itza or Tulum during a Cancun vacation, travelers who are on a tight budget might prefer the El Rey Ruins or the El Meco Ruins. These sites don’t take as long to get to, and the entrance fees are cheaper. There’s also the ruins of Yamil Lu’um. You can find these ruins on the grounds of the Park Royal Hotel, and there is no admission fee. As for other ideas for cheap things to do in Cancun, the entrance fee for the Interactive Cancun Aquarium is more than fair, and it doesn’t cost very much to zoom out to the island of Isla Mujeres on a boat. Once at the island, it is possible to relax on the beach and do some snorkeling, among other things.

In relation to saving money, there are some well-priced Cancun hotels to select from, and you never know what you might come across if you keep an eye out for Cancun discounts in general. Perhaps you’ll secure a great deal on airfare or find discounted tour packages. As for getting around once you arrive in Cancun, taking the bus is a cheap and effective option, and walking is a good way to get around the main downtown area.
