Cozumel Mexico Beaches

Cozumel Mexico beaches are easily some of the most beautiful in the entire Caribbean. The crystal blue water, white sand, and amazing coral reefs make Cozumel one of the most popular tourist destinations in this part of the world. It is difficult to pin down the best Cozumel beaches because they are all beautiful in their own distinctive ways. As you plan for your trip to the island, however, you should look into some of the better known beaches to discover which are most appealing to you.

Playa Mia, formerly known as Playa Sol, is one of the largest and most popular beaches on the island. There is a small fee to get through the main gate, and there are fees inside for towels, beach chairs, and entrance to certain attractions. This is largely the norm for many of the Cozumel Mexico beaches that are not connected to a private resort or hotel. Playa Mia has rows of buses lining up everyday with people chomping at the bit to get out into the sun and surf. This does not at all detract from the beauty of this large beach in Cozumel but if you are looking for a tranquil beach retreat, Playa Mia may be a little frenetic for your tastes, especially during peak travel season.

Playa Corona is one of the two best Cozumel beaches for snorkeling from the shore. It is much smaller and quainter than larger beaches like Playa Mia. Here you will be able to enjoy the beach in relative tranquility. Expect to see groups of snorkelers receiving instruction on the shore before diving in to explore some of the best reef on the entire island. The Chankanaab Reef is visible from Playa Corona. The location of Playa Corona is excellent. To the south you will find a row of amazing beaches and dive sites and just a few miles to the north are some of the best San Miguel de Cozumel beaches. Any time you talk about San Miguel Cozumel you have to mention the shopping. When you stay near Playa Corona, you will be just a short drive from the sterling silver epicenter of the Caribbean. Choosing this area of the island allows you to enjoy the San Miguel de Cozumel beaches, downtown shopping and entertainment, and the beaches and reefs to the south.

Nachi-Cocom is another of the best Cozumel beaches if you are traveling with your family or are generally in pursuit of a relaxing and tranquil getaway. It is not nearly as heavily trafficked as some of the island’s larger beaches. Located near the southwestern tip of the island, Nachi-Cocom is right in the middle of all the best known dive sites and beaches on the island. Cozumel Mexico beaches do not get more laid back and relaxed than this. Enjoy good food, swim-up bars in freshwater pools, and a host of water activities for adults and kids while at this beach. Whether you are staying near one of the San Miguel de Cozumel beaches or further south at Playa San Francisco or Playa Mia, you are sure to enjoy your stay on the island of Cozumel.
