La Paz Mexico

La Paz Mexico

Just north of Cabo San Lucas is the beachfront town of La Paz Mexico.  La Paz Mexico is the largest city south of Tijuana on the Baja Peninsula and a favorite destination for sailing and deep sea fishing.  While many Mexican cities like Cancun and Cozumel have suffered the ravages of heavy tourism, La Paz Mexico has retained its pristine beauty and remains largely unspoiled.  La Paz is Spanish for “peace”, and for any vacationers looking to find a quiet stretch of sand to enjoy the natural beauty of Mexico, La Paz Mexico is an excellent choice.

Sailing in La Paz Mexico is an incredibly popular tourist activity.  White sand beaches and clear water make sailing in La Paz Mexico unlike sailing anywhere else in the world.  Travelers may choose to rent a sail boat for an independent adventure, or purchase passage on one of the many whale watching tour boats.  Sailing in La Paz Mexico for the purposes of whale watching is most popular between the months of January and March.  During these months, about 4,000 gray whales make their way from the Bering Straight to the coast of Baja, where they birth their calves.  Whale watching tours leave from the port of La Paz frequently during the winter months, and many tourists make their way to La Paz Baja Mexico just to witness this fantastic sight.

In addition to sailing, the town of La Paz Baja Mexico features one of the loveliest oceanfront shopping walkways in all of Mexico.  Tourists can stroll along the walkway shopping and sightseeing as they go.  The Baja Peninsula is well known for its excellent fishing, and many of the restaurants and cafes on the waterfront will feature fresh fish- often caught that same day.  Food in Mexico can be delightful, and the fresh fare at many of the restaurants in La Paz is sure to satisfy travelers.

Hotels in La Paz Baja Mexico tend to be on the simple side, but offer comfortable accommodation for reasonable fees.  Hotel prices will be higher during the winter, in general, and especially during whale watching season.  Travel packages are available for guests looking to book a tour or hotel stay along with their flight to La Paz.  If you plan to rent a car in Mexico or after your flight to La Paz, you will find that a two lane highway has recently been built from the city of La Paz.  The new highway has made travel into and out of the city more convenient.

Although Cortez first landed in La Paz in the 16th century, a permanent settlement did not develop until the 19th century.  While the historic district of La Paz is small, it is worth touring and can be a great way to spend the afternoon.  Your stay in this beachfront town can include everything from fishing, to sailing, to scuba diving, to simply lying back on the beach and enjoying the beauty of quiet, rural Mexico.
