Casa de Leyendas is one of the most distinctive of all of the Mazatlan hotels. When you’re looking for unique accommodations and personalized service, you’ll be delighted with the bed-and-breakfast inn has to offer. Consistently ranked as one of the best places to stay in the seaside city, Casa de Leyendas has won awards for its turndown service eight years in a row. In English, the Casa de Leyendas B&B name means “house of legends,” and it has a story to match. In its early days, the casa was used as a storage place for gold bullion and there’s whispers that gold is still buried in the courtyard.
At some point, the building was transformed into a grand home for Hector Gonzalez Guevara. A true renaissance man, he was a medical doctor, onetime mayor of Mazatlan and a member of the house of Representatives. His name is still remembered and honored throughout town, so it’s only fitting that his home retains the grandeur of its legendary resident.
When guests arrive, they’ll find an 8,000-square foot inn that retains the comfort and intimacy of a friend’s home. The terraces and courtyard area add another 1,500 square feet of space. Within its walls, six guestrooms provide a comfortable place to stay with plenty of luxury and style. The Carnival Room is brightly decorated with blue tiles in the bath and a toucan painted on the wardrobe. Its second-floor neighbor, the Peralta Room, also has French doors that open up onto the expansive terrace. The Jardin Room was decorated in cool colors reminiscent of the nearby beach. It’s a few steps away from the second-floor reading room.
The entire Casa de Leyendas B&B is equipped for wireless Internet service, and guests are welcome to make international calls as a perk of their stay. The rooms have small refrigerators and safes, along with en-suite bathrooms and pillow-top mattresses. Daily maid service is included in the package price, as is concierge service. The staff is eager to make suggestions for things to do in Mazatlan, and they have beach gear available to borrow. You don’t need to walk to the ocean to go for a swim, a small pool is located in the courtyard for the guests to enjoy.
One of the perks of bed and breakfast vacations is, of course, the morning meal. Guests have their choice of where to enjoy the spread. Some choose to take their meal in their rooms, while others prefer to join the other guests for breakfast. On warm days, which is most of them in Mazatlan, breakfast is served on the terrace, but a dedicated breakfast room is available. The meal, which is included in the affordable room rate, features freshly made pastries and muffins along with fresh fruit and orange juice. Breakfast entrees are included, both American and Mexican favorites.
The rest of the day, guests are invited to stop into Macaws Restaurant, the cantina located right in the front entrance of the Casa de Leyendas B&B lobby. This is the place to go for good food and a great price, specialties include sandwiches and other flavors Americans tend to enjoy. Macaws also serves up cocktails with the Pacifico a specialty of the house. The mix of tequila, passion fruit juice and lemon is as bright as the Mazatlan sun.
