Mexico City Nightlife

Mexico City nightlife is what you would expect of a huge world-class city anywhere in the world. There are numerous options for Mexico City clubs, bars, lounges, and jazz clubs, catering to many after-hours preferences. Whether you want to see and be seen at a swanky rooftop lounge or make your tour of the more low-key bars in Mexico City, this city has it all. Keep in mind that as Mexico City is located at a high altitude, alcohol may affect your body more than in other places; so be cautious to avoid being ill, as well as being targeted by pickpockets while intoxicated.
One of the trendiest establishments in the Mexico City nightlife is the AREA Rooftop Bar and Terrace at the Habita boutique hotel in Polanco. This rooftop terrace has a minimalist décor and attracts a trendy crowd lounging around on the white sofas sipping cocktails. You can mingle with the beautiful people under the stars, and the bar also attracts its fair share of celebrities who can be seen congregating in the VIP area, a lower terrace with a pool. The music is mostly lounge and the drinks quite expensive, but the view of the surrounding city by night is worth it.
If you're interested in traditional Mexican music, one of the best nightclubs in Mexico City is the Jorongo Bar. This mainstay of Mexico City clubs features a mariachi show with many bands, and this one is known for its excellent traditional music. Different bands perform music from different regions all over Mexico. Depending on the band, you may be charged a cover or simply the cost of drinks. Jorongo Bar attracts a diverse crowd, from local regulars to tourists wanting an authentic musical experience. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the atmosphere friendly. You can also order an assortment of Mexican food at this venue.
One of the most charming Mexico City clubs is La Casa de las Sirenas. Located in a historical building right by the Cathedral in the Historic Center, La Casa de las Sirenas, or the House of the Mermaids, is also a popular restaurant. It offers a whopping 200 different varieties of tequila, and you can specify which type you prefer when ordering a margarita or other cocktails. The courtyard has a pleasant garden with flowers and trees, and from the upper floors of the building there is a great view of the Zocalo and the Metropolitan Cathedral. While it is not one of the cheapest nightclubs in Mexico City, it does have a lot of character and one of the best locations in the Historic Center. If you get there on a weekend, don't miss the live piano music.
If partying the night away in one of the nightclubs in Mexico City isn't really your thing, consider one of the evening performances at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. A museum by day, the fine arts palace doubles as a performance venue by night. Here you can see the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico performing twice a week; this performance showcases Aztec, Hispanic, and regional folk dancing. Operas and concerts are also held at the venue. Tickets are reasonably priced, and an evening at the Bellas Artes may be one of the highlights of your experience of Mexico City nightlife.
