The Playa del Carmen golf courses are not plentiful in number, but what they lack in quantity, they more than make up for in quality. In fact, you can find some of the best golf courses in all of Mexico in Playa del Carmen, and it only gets better when you consider the other Maya Riviera courses. As for Playa del Carmen proper, there are three delightful courses to select from.
If you want to go golfing in Playa del Carmen and you only have time for one course, you might head straight for the Fairmont Mayakoba Resort (pictured). Part of the larger Mayakoba resort community, this upscale resort has the spectacular El Camaleon Golf Course. A true gem, this Greg Norman-designed course passes through mangrove forests and thick jungles. It also features oceanfront holes, and you'll even find a few cenotes sprinkled here and there. From the back tees, the El Camaleon Golf Course is more than 7,000 yards long. There are eighteen holes, and the par is 72. Complementing the course are the renowned Jim McLean Golf School, a full-service pro shop, and a variety of other fantastic facilities. The El Camaleon Golf Course rates are understandably high, but they are worth every penny. Also, it should be noted that Fairmont Mayakoba guests enjoy significant golfing discounts.
If you can't get a tee time at the Fairmont Mayakoba Resort, then worry not. The Iberostar Grand Paraiso Resort also features a world-class golf course. This course, which was designed by P.B. Dye, was largely carved out of the jungle and has plenty of dynamic terrain features. The par is 72, and there are eighteen holes to indulge in. Staying out of the deep sand traps is one of the keys to getting a lower score, and since the fairways are narrow, you can make up shots on the competition by keeping it in the short grass. A lit driving range, a golf shop, and men's and women's showers and lockers are among the facilities at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club, and since high-quality rental equipment is available, you don't have to bring your clubs along on a Playa del Carmen flight.
Rounding out the top Playa del Carmen golf courses is the eighteen-hole stretch located in Playacar. The Playacar Golf Course is both challenging and beautiful, and you can reach it in virtually no time at all if you are staying at any number of Playa del Carmen all inclusive resorts. Once you arrive, you might venture over to the practice area to warm up for your round. This area features a putting green, a driving range, and areas where you can work on chipping and getting out of the sand. As is true at some of the other area courses, those who are visiting the Playacar Golf Club can take advantage of an "all inclusive" system. All food and beverages are included in the rates for a round, and you can also access the club's refreshing pool, and enjoy transportation to and from your Playa del Carmen hotel or vacation rental.
When you're not teeing it up on these renowned Playa del Carmen golf courses, you might check out the par-three courses in the area. You can also consider traveling outside of Playa del Carmen and playing some of the courses in other Maya Riviera destinations such as Cancun and Cozumel. At the Mayan Palace in Playa del Carmen, you will find a par-three executive course that was designed by none other than Jack Nicklaus, and just twenty minutes away in Puerto Aventuras is another par-three course known for its excellence. As for the golf courses in Cancun, the Nicklaus-designed course at the Moon Spa & Golf Club is easily one of the best, and over in Cozumel, you can't go wrong with a round at the Cozumel Country Club.
If you are serious about doing some golfing in Playa del Carmen, there are some great vacation packages to take advantage of. These packages can include your accommodations and tee times at the very least. You can play golf year round in the Playa del Carmen area, so there's never a bad time to start searching for a vacation package deal that suits your vacation ideal.
