Puerto Vallarta car rentals are available as soon as you land at the international airport, which is easily accessible to all the sights and attractions in the region. There are several major international companies located there, including outlets such as Hertz, Budget, Alamo, and National. Additionally, you can get a cheap car rental in Puerto Vallarta for a day or longer at office locations in various parts of the city. Some of the better hotels can assist you with booking one, and some rental companies actually have rental desks in the lobbies of luxury hotels.
Puerto Vallarta Car Rentals
Taxis and public bus transportation in Puerto Vallarta are cheap and convenient if you are staying in any of the areas from Nuevo Vallarta (which is less than a mile north of the airport) south through the metropolitan area. The airport shuttle can take you right to many Puerto Vallarta hotels. Many of the luxury hotels and resort hotels will arrange for your airport transfer, and taxis are readily available throughout the city.
However, a reliable cheap car rental in Puerto Vallarta is essential if you want to discover the scenic coastline and charming villages of the Riviera Nayarit, which stretches for 100 miles north of the city. Puerto Vallarta car rentals are also essential for exploring off the beaten path to some of the fascinating towns to the east of the city. Two in particular, Talpa de Allende and Mascota, are full of fascinating history and beautiful Spanish colonial architecture. They can be explored together during a day excursion, but without a car the only way for you to get there is by booking organized tours. While many of these tours are excellent, Puerto Vallarta car hire gives you the freedom to explore independently on your own, at your own pace, without being held to the schedule of a bus full of other tourists.
Cheap car rental in Puerto Vallarta is often available as one of the included features in the many vacation packages that are available to the region. These packages provide excellent value, as they usually include heavily discounted flights, accommodations in hotels, and possibly other features, such as a dining package, and some tours. Many vacation packages are offered in conjunction with special events, such as college spring break.
If your transportation in Puerto Vallarta is going to be a rental car, it is advisable that you familiarize yourself with the requirements and rules of the road. Your United States driver’s license is sufficient; you do not need to obtain a Mexican license. You must be 25 years of age or older and have a valid major credit card. It is best to purchase Mexican insurance when you rent, even if it isn’t required by the company or even if your credit card provides insurance. This is because you often cannot leave the country after an accident until the damage is paid for. Your credit card company will reimburse you under most circumstances. The driver (not passengers) must wear a seat belt. The passengers (not the driver) are allowed to drink alcohol. Don’t park illegally; police often remove the license plates of illegally parked cars, and getting them back is costly and time consuming.
Just about the only time Puerto Vallarta car rentals are not useful is if you are staying at one of the remote beach hotels and resorts that can only be reached by boat, such as the lovely Verana in the little fishing village of Yelapa south of the city or Majahuitas on Punta Mita. Boat transportation in Puerto Vallarta is one of the primary methods of getting to and from many of the places on the coast, especially the isolated sites on the jungle covered mountains in the south.
