Puerto Vallarta Marina, called Marina Vallarta by locals, is located along the southern edge of the international airport and just north of the city’s downtown area (El Centro) and Las Glorias Beach. The marina itself has slips for more than 500 vessels that include sailing ships, catamarans, and luxurious private yachts. Many of these are available for charter for fishing, sailing, and diving trips. At the entrance to the marina is the Marine Terminal where large ocean liners on Pacific cruises dock. Passengers on those cruise ships who feel like an evening to themselves are apt to stroll over to one of the many restaurants at the Puerto Vallarta Marina after a full day of sightseeing.
Puerto Vallarta Marina
Puerto Vallarta Marina is a resort within a resort, boasting numerous Puerto Vallarta Marina hotels as well as an 18-hole golf course, a water park, and several other attractions. A picturesque, 120-foot-high lighthouse sits on the point across the channel from the Marine Terminal. This isn’t a working lighthouse, but one of the city’s most romantic bars (named El Faro) with live jazz in the evenings. The circular bar at the top is jam packed at sunset, when people come for a sundowner cocktail before enjoying an evening of nightlife.

North of El Faro is a dozen or more Puerto Vallarta Marina hotels that all sit directly on private beaches. These are some of the finest luxury hotels in the metropolitan area. Several of these, including the four-star Melia, are all inclusive resorts popular with families and couples alike. The Casa Magna Marriott Resort & Spa has regularly been on the Conde Nast Traveler list of the top 100 hotels in the world. Other Puerto Vallarta Marina hotels include the Westin Resort and Spa, and the Velas Vallarta both five-star properties with many amenities, services, and facilities.
The Marina Vallarta Club de Golf is an 18-hole course designed by famed architect Joe Finger from the United States. It is at the north end of the strip of beaches where the best hotels are located, and most of its holes line the beach. Throughout the course are lagoons full of herons, sea geese, iguanas, and alligators—sometimes, you may have to take an extra stroke because your ball landed too close to a croc. One of the most exclusive Marina Vallarta resorts is located on the course itself. The Casa Velas is an adults-only all inclusive property with a full-service spa and luxurious suites. There is a sister course (Vistavallarta is actually two 18-hole courses) to the east up in the Sierra Madre foothills designed by the golf champions Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf. Here, your concentration on the game will be challenged by the breathtaking vistas over Puerto Vallarta, the stunning coastline, and the large horseshoe of Banderas Bay.
Puerto Vallarta Marina Condos
The Puerto Vallarta Marina covers more than 500 acres of prime ocean front land. Its beaches stretch for more than a mile. Its boardwalk (similar to the city’s popular Malecon a bit further south) is where you will find most of the restaurants (other than those in hotels), shops, boutiques, and galleries. In addition to hotels, this is also an exclusive residential area, and you will find some luxury villas, condos, and vacation rentals here.
