Punta Mita

Punta Mita is one of the more recently developed exclusive resorts in the Puerto Vallarta area. It is set on the tip of Punta de Mita, the point at the end of the peninsula that marks the northern boundary of Banderas Bay. There is a hill here called Careyeros, which contains an archaeological site with an astronomical observatory, priest’s dwelling, and other Azlatlan culture ceremonial ruins dating to at least 200 B.C., and possibly 800 B.C. There is much more than simply options for a Punta Mita Mexico hotel here, as the development contains a small fishing village as well as private homes and villas that are available as vacation rentals. Punta Mita vacations are enjoyed by those seeking the most luxurious experience possible with access to all the attractions of the region.

One Punta Mita Mexico hotel is possibly the most exclusive of all the Puerto Vallarta hotels. The Four Seasons Resort and Spa boasts a full-service spa, numerous gourmet dining venues, chic shopping boutiques, tennis courts and similar facilities, and 173 sumptuous rooms and suites all facing the ocean. It even boasts its own luxurious 55-foot yacht available to up to ten guests for sightseeing, sunset cocktails, scuba diving, and whale watching cruises. Just offshore from Punta Mita are the Islas Marietas, protected and uninhabited volcanic islands with a plethora of birdlife, some of the best diving in Central America, and a nursery for humpback whales and their calves from about December until about March. Punta Mita vacations allow you to enjoy most of the major attractions of the region without ever leaving this beautiful peninsula.

The other Punta Mita Mexico hotel is the five-star St. Regis, also with a full-service spa and similar amenities and facilities. Deluxe rooms and suites are set in semicircles around two inner courtyards containing lagoon-like swimming pools and facing outward to the ocean. Both hotels have long stretches of white-sand beaches, and both share a championship golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus (who also designed one of the Vistavallarata courses on the hills overlooking Marina Vallarta). Conde Nast Traveler listed this Punta Mita course as number one in the world in 2008. In addition to stunning views of the ocean, it boasts a very unusual hole where the green is on a black lava rock island, which can only be reached on foot or by cart at low tide. At high tide, you have to use one of the hotel’s amphibious vehicles.
Your Punta Mita vacations give you easy access to all the attractions around the city of Puerto Vallarta, including its historic Old Town, and the mile-long beachfront promenade called El Malecon. You also will be located on the Riviera Nayarit, which stretches north for another 75 miles all the way to the town of San Blas almost parallel with the Baja Peninsula. If you take advantage of car rentals, you can spend a day driving up the coast to enjoy the stunning views and unique character of small towns such as Sayulita, San Pancho, and San Sebastian.
