The best time to go to Mexico depends upon where you are traveling in this large country. As is the case with many of the world’s top warm-weather tourist destinations, the busiest times of the year tend to be those times when it is cold elsewhere. As such, you can expect to encounter the most tourist traffic during the winter months when Mexico’s many beach resorts experience pristine weather that is ideal for all manners of water sports and activities along the hundreds of miles of sandy coastline. Destinations such as Cancun, Cozumel, and Acapulco attract millions of visitors every year. The most popular destinations offer just about every guest accommodation imaginable, from budget motels to luxurious beach resorts.
Mexico experiences two primary seasons: a dry season and a rainy season. The dry seasons lasts from October to April, while the rainy season runs from May to October. These facts need to be viewed in light of where you will be staying in Mexico. For example, if you are staying in the northern reaches of the country, which tend to be far drier, even in the rainy season, you will experience far less precipitation.
In the south, where tropical storms are common during the rainy season, the duration of the storm tends to be very short, and the weather gives way to cooler evenings and even more sunshine. These tropical storms tend to start in the late afternoon and sometimes only last a couple of minutes. One advantage to traveling during this time is that the foliage is stunningly verdant and the countryside is especially breathtaking. The summer months of June through August are the hottest in the country, and even though it is not as busy during these months as it is during the winter months, you can still expect to find a multitude of international travelers, as well as domestic travelers who make their way to the resort destinations from their homes inland.
Weather is certainly not the only consideration for people making travel plans to Mexico. Anyone who has done even a bit of research or has been to Mexico before will tell you that the discounts and deals that are available during what is known as the low season are significant to say the least. The low season is generally considered to start after Easter and lasts through mid December, while the high travel season starts in the middle part of December and continues until the Easter holiday. It is not uncommon for prices on everything from airfare to hotel accommodations to drop by as much as 50 percent during the low travel season. This may be a prime motivator for those parents attempting to put together a nice, all-inclusive family vacation to Mexico without being forced to break the bank.
As you can see, the weather is generally agreeable year round, so your decision as to when to travel to Mexico should be based on what kind of experience you wish to have. If you are averse to large crowds of tourists, you will definitely want to avoid the weeks surround Spring Break at Mexico’s major resorts. Otherwise, the fall months may be an ideal time to enjoy fine weather, a host of activities, and potential savings on your trip.
