Auburn Alabama is a lovely city in the eastern part of the state. It is home to Auburn University, a driver for this fastest growing metropolitan area in Alabama. The city boasts the title of “The Loveliest Village on the Plains.” Auburn is located where the Coastal Plains of Alabama meet the Piedmont Plateau. This reference comes from a poem by Oliver Goldsmith called “The Deserted Village.” This one-time small village is now a burgeoning city in the heart of Alabama. The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts is the most prestigious museum in Auburn, primarily featuring nineteenth- and twentieth-century works of American and European art. The impressive collection features such distinguished names as Renoir, Dali, Chagall, Matisse, and Georgia O’Keefe. There are also gorgeous blown glass installations by Dale Chihuly. The Telfair Peet Theater hosts a series of concerts, plays, and musicals throughout the year, including performances by the Auburn bands.
