Arizona Golf Courses

Okay, so you've hiked the Grand Canyon, seen the Native American Reservations. Now you want to find some great Arizona golf courses. Fortunately, you are in luck. Not only is Arizona considered to be a premier golf destination, its courses are as diverse and fascinating as its landscapes. With over 300 courses throughout the entire state, you will have no trouble finding a course whose style you prefer, and whose tee times are within your budget. You can choose between easy public courses and PGA Championship links.

You can find Arizona golf courses that are links courses, desert target styles or alpine fairways. The desert target style courses are rather interesting, since they represent a type of course that is "uniquely Arizonan." By state law, there is a limit to how much water Arizona golf courses can use for irrigation. As a result, Arizona has developed these challenging desert target courses that have minimal fairways. The desert landscape becomes your course.

While the most popular courses are in Phoenix, you might find it easier to get tee time in some of the Tucson golf courses. The Westin La Paloma is a nine-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Although challenging, it is considered one of the best desert golf courses in the region.

The Golf Club at Vistoso is considered a Tucson local's favorite. The course, designed by Tom Weiskopf, was a "reader's write in" in Golf Magazine's Top 100. The Arizona National Golf Club is a desert target course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. This high end Tucson golf course is a favorite among the Arizona Diamondback players. From the par 3 fourth hole, you get a clear view of the entire city of Tucson. In good weather, you can see all the way to Mexico.

If you would prefer to play at Phoenix golf courses, keep in mind, the fees can be a bit pricey. However, with a bit of insider information, there are ways to find affordable Arizona golf vacations. If you are willing to get to your game within a 24-hour notice, stand-by golf sells cancelled tee time. Rates can be discounted up to 30 percent.

If that sounds to risky, the municipal Phoenix golf courses are also a more economical choice than those that are privately owned. These include the Aquila Golf Course, The Papago, and the Encanto.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a luxurious Arizona golf vacation, Phoenix has a number of excellent golf resorts. The Legacy Golf Resort is a four-star hotel with 328 suites. The golf course was designed by Gary Panks, and is set on a 7,500acre turn-of-the-century ranch.

The Wigwam Resort is one of the oldest golf hotels in Phoenix. The resort has three golf courses, which are designated Gold, Blue and Red. The Gold Course is the most decorated. The Blue Course, at 6,100 yards is considered a resort course. The Red Course with its lakes and rock filled creeks is the most modern of the three.
