Phoenix Events

Phoenix events offer something for everyone, and as such, it's not uncommon for visitors to the Arizona capital to have a certain event or festival in mind when planning their trip. For some, a sports event will be at the heart of a Phoenix getaway, with venues such as the University of Phoenix Stadium and Chase Field figuring among the top sports venues. Cultural enthusiasts can choose from any number of concerts, plays, and other performances when looking for things to do. As for the Phoenix festivals, they include a few hot air balloon festivals, such as the Cave Creek Balloon Festival, and at least one food festival that is likely to leave a good taste in your mouth. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Phoenix festivals and events, and since there are so many to choose from, any and all visitors are encouraged to keep them in mind.

One of the best Phoenix events is the Arizona State Fair. Held at the very spacious Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix proper, this family-friendly event attracts more than 1 million people every year. People come to ride the rides, indulge in fair food, play carnival games, and watch concerts. The concerts figure among the top draws, and they are free with the general admission fee. October is when the lively Arizona State Fair is held, and it spans the course of two weeks, offering locals and visitors alike numerous opportunities to drop on by for some good times.

In addition to the State Fair, those who are interested in Phoenix family events can always keep the Zoo Lights festivities and Autumnfest in mind, as well as any other number of events and festivals. The former is a holiday season lights show that lasts for weeks. The Phoenix Zoo plays host to the Zoo Lights festivities, and it is worth noting that many of the light displays represent some of the real animals that they zoo has on display. As for Autunmfest, it is a fun-filled celebration of all things fall, with a pumpkin patch, an arts and crafts fair, and a special Kids Zone with inflatable toys figuring among the highlights. Other Phoenix family friendly events that can make for fun additions to the itinerary include the various children's theater productions that are offered by the area theaters.

There are several major performing arts venues in Downtown Phoenix, and the choices only increase as you move into the surrounding cities, such as Scottsdale and Tempe. In addition to children's theater productions, these regional theaters host touring Broadway productions, big ticket concerts, and ballet performances. For sports-related Phoenix events, the city is home to numerous professional sports franchises, including the NBA's Phoenix Suns, who play their home games at the US Airways Center in Downtown Phoenix. The Fiesta Bowl, which is one of the biggest college football bowl games figures on the winter schedule, and when spring rolls around, numerous Major League Baseball teams come to the area for spring training and to compete in Cactus League games.

For film fanatics, the Phoenix Film Festival is worth adding to the agenda. Held over the course of a week in April, this festival focuses on independent films, and screenings are held at venues throughout town. Seminars, musical performances, and various competitions add extra substance to the Phoenix Film Festival, as does the opening party, which usually sees a fair amount of celebrity guests.

These are some of the best Phoenix events and festivals, but they certainly aren't the only ones. The events calendar in the Phoenix area is full year round, and there is bound to be something that piques your interest. Food fanatics, for example, might plan their Phoenix vacation around the West of Western Culinary Festival or the Scottsdale Culinary Festival, while film fanatics who can't make it to town for the Phoenix Film Festival can always consider the ASU Film & Video Festival in April. There truly is something for everyone in Phoenix when it comes to the events and festivals.
