Bayonet Golf Course As you travel north along the Pacific Coast Highway from the community of Monterey, you will eventually see the City of Seaside, California. This is the home of the Bayonet Golf Course. This is one of the golf courses in Monterey California that has a really interesting history. Here is its story.

Bayonet Golf Course It was in the heart of this city that the U.S. Army purchased a piece of land that was to be used as a training facility. This training facility was named Fort Ord in honor of General Edward Otho Cresap Ord, who was a famed Civil War Veteran.

Bayonet Golf Course In 1954General Robert B. McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course upon this piece of land. Little did he know that this seaside golf course would one day become one of the more popular golf courses in Monterey California. The Bayonet was named after the 7th Infantry "Light Fighter" Division, which was often referred to as the "Bayonet Division." Many have said that General McClure was reputed to be a "left-handed" golfer. When he designed the Bayonet Golf Course, he used a little bit of “creative architecture” to effectively reduce his handicap. Holes number 11 through hole number 15 is commonly known as "Combat Corner." They are interrupted only by a 226-yard uphill par 3.

Bayonet Golf Course In comparison to other golf courses in Monterey California, many people have described the Bayonet as a “what you see is what you get” course. There are no tricked-up fairways, very few bunkers, relatively flat greens and small tree-lined fairways. This seaside golf course overlooks the waters of the Monterey Bay. You play your game amidst the warm California sunshine. In the background, you hear the soft breezes of the Pacific Ocean. Even better, California’s temperate coastal climate makes the Bayonet Golf Course playable all year round. Destinations Magazine rated the Bayonet Golf Course as number 13 in their article about the most challenging golf courses in the State of California. Taking all this into account, it is understandable that the Bayonet Golf Course is one of the more popular golf courses in Monterey California.

The Bayonet Golf Course also has an excellent golf school. They believe that every aspect of the golf swing begins with the student’s set-up. The instructors place special emphasis on first part of the backswing, the position at the top, start of the downswing through impact and a balanced finish. After your lesson, enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner at the Bayonet Bar and Grill. You can either order one of their tasty cooked meals, or have a deli sandwich made up to take with you on the course. If you are looking for a beautiful seaside golf course, with great PGA instructors and reasonable rates, consider the Bayonet Golf Course.
