Carmel California Hotels

Auberge Hotel | Bernardus Lodge | La Playa Hotel | Mission Ranch Inn | Monte Verde Inn | Quail Lodge

Carmel California had its beginning as a seaside artists’ colony. Its real name is Carmel by the Sea, but most people refer to it as Carmel. In the past as well as in the present, Carmel has attracted luminaries such as Robinson Jeffers, Sinclair Lewis, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Ansel Adams, Clint Eastwood, Eric Berne, James Elroy and Robert Heinlein. Many of these celebrities such as Clint Eastwood and Doris Day have been responsible for increasing tourist interest in Carmel. As a result, a significant number of Carmel California hotels have been built in the past two decades.

Carmel California combines the quaint with the dynamic. The dramatic waves hit the shore and lead you to a popular, picturesque village.

At one time, the residents of Carmel California did not believe in street numbers. They also did not like the idea of street lighting. Thus, all of the residents carried lanterns at night. Carmel has still maintained some of its quaint atmosphere, but on a much larger scale. You can still stroll through a labyrinth of hidden courtyards and enjoy the award winning gardens. Today, Carmel California hotels continue to identify their location by the cross streets. However, these might be the only the only salutations to the bohemian Carmel of yesterday.

The fact that there are actually Carmel California hotels is indicative of this change. In the past, if you were looking for a Carmel accommodation, you could only choose between Carmel inns and Bed and breakfasts. Today, it is quite possible to find a luxury Carmel accommodation at various upscale Carmel lodging venues. The Park Hyatt Highlands Inn is one such luxury Carmel accommodation. This is one of the Carmel California hotels that has become a celebrity magnet. Madonna, Sammy Hagar, Walt Disney, Marlon Brando and other famous people have stayed there.

Since most Carmel California hotels are solidly booked from May to October, it is in your best interests to book your room as early as possible. If you are traveling with a four-legged companion, the Cypress Inn, which is owned and operated by the actress Doris Day, is an excellent choice. The Tradewinds at Carmel is another one of the pet-friendly, luxury Carmel California hotels.

If you are on a budget and you are looking for low cost Carmel lodging, check out the Carmel Village Inn. This centrally located Carmel California accommodation serves breakfast every morning. A Carmel lodging guide will show you other budget Carmel California hotels such as the Vagabond House. This economical Carmel accommodation is conveniently located. Its English Tudor décor is actually quite charming. A welcome basket filled with fruit awaits you when you arrive.
