Catalina Island Hotels

Catalina Island hotels give visitors the opportunity to stay on this lovely little island for more than a day, which can be a good idea given the sheer amount of things to do. Santa Catalina Island is California’s only coastal resort island destination and around 1 million people visit it each year. There is plenty of Catalina Island lodging spread throughout the island, but mostly concentrated in Avalon. Although, on the whole, you can expect to pay more for accommodations on Catalina Island than you normally would on the mainland, with the right amount of planning, you may be able to find some reasonable rates. Avalon hotels do fill up rather quickly in the late spring, summer, and early fall, so you will want to take this into account.

The Avalon Hotel (pictured) is a premiere Catalina Island accommodation that is known for its compelling architecture and elegant décor. It is located on Whittley Avenue, overlooking the harbor and within easy walking distance of the beautiful island beaches. Guests are certain to enjoy relaxing on the rooftop deck with lounge chairs and umbrellas that looks out over the ocean. The guest services staff will be more than happy to help you arrange for dinner reservations, fishing excursions, or rounds of golf. You will also have access to the beach where you can find everything from kayaking to snorkeling. It is the understated sophistication and luxury that makes this one of the most special Avalon hotels.

The Hotel Catalina is one of the Catalina Island hotels that you will be able to see upon entering the harbor if you are taking one of the cruises. It is a white and blue Victorian structure that is situated just one half block from the beach. There are guestrooms and suites as well as family cottages and amenities including a spa, courtyard, and complimentary coffee and baked goods in the morning. Just as with many of the other Avalon hotels, you will be within very close range of a wide selection of stores, restaurants, and bars. The entire town of Avalon (the only incorporated city on the island) only comprises three square miles. This is great because you will not have to walk far to get to anywhere you want. Most residents of the island just use golf carts in lieu of cars.

The Hotel Metropole at 205 Crescent Avenue is another example of fine Catalina Island lodging. It is a stunning beachfront property that offers a rooftop hot tub with amazing views of Avalon Bay and a range of other pleasing amenities, not the least of which are the spacious and comfortable guestrooms. There is a restaurant and bar onsite and a 24-hour concierge staff to help you with any plans you need to make. Enjoy a day spa, workout facility, easy access to the beaches, and lots of fun water sports and activities right around the corner.

Other Catalina Island hotels of note include the Zane Grey Pueblo Hotel, Hotel Atwater, the Seaport Village Inn, El Terado Terrace, and the Pavilion Hotel. You will have a much better chance of securing reasonable rates if you book your rooms in advance of the busy tourist season.
