Surfing and soaking up some sun are among the best things to do at the Dana Point beaches, which provide miles of sandy shoreline for residents and visitors to enjoy. The coastal city of Dana Point California is a rather exclusive destination that is home to approximately 35,000 residents, and it is found on the southern side of Orange County between Los Angeles and San Diego. It is a popular southern California vacation spot if not just for its beaches, but also for its harbor, its luxurious hotels, and the fine Monarch Beach Golf Links golf course, which was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. That’s just the tip of iceberg when it comes to the attractions in Dana Point, so you can bet that getting bored during your visit is really not an option.

As for the Dana Point beaches, Doheny State Beach and Salt Creek Beach are among the choices, and you’ll do well to visit either one. Doheny State Beach is found just south of the Dana Point Harbor and downtown region, while Salt Creek Beach is found just to the north along the route to nearby Laguna Beach. Doheny State Beach is part of Doheny State Park, and among other things, it is considered to be one of the best places in Orange County to go surfing and camping. As is true at some of the other state beaches in California, Doheny State Beach offers Wi-Fi internet service, so when you’re not surfing the Pacific Ocean waves here, you can surf the web on a laptop computer. The Doheny State Beach in Dana Point is over a mile in length, and in addition to surfing and swimming here, exploring the tide pools at low tide is among the top things to do. The Doheny State Park campground, which is one of the featured attractions in Dana Point for outdoor enthusiasts, offers grills for barbecuing, over 150 picnic tables, and 121 campsites that are family-friendly. Much like Doheny State Beach, Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point offers a park where you will find grills and picnic tables. There is no campground in the park, but since Doheny Beach is so close, you can easily travel between the two. Stairs that lead down to the beach can be accessed at the Salt Creek Beach Park, and among the facilities here are public restrooms, outdoor showers, fire pits, and changing rooms. Should you get hungry while enjoying this fine beach in Dana Point California, there is a snack bar here, though you might just pack a picnic basket full of goodies and enjoy the scenic ocean views while you eat a pre-selected meal. Hopping on Ritz Carlton Drive from the Pacific Coast Highway will get you to the Salt Creek Beach facilities, and there is parking available once you arrive. Be sure to bring a camera, as the cliffs, rock formations, and sandy beach are quite photogenic. Less developed than many of the other beaches in southern California, Salt Creek Beach is one of the Dana Point beaches that attracts repeat visitors because of its natural appeal.

Other beaches worth adding to your Dana Point beaches itinerary include Capistrano Beach and Monarch Beach, and when you’re not spending time on the sand and playing in the ocean during your Dana Point California vacation, you can dine at the harbor restaurants and do some shopping at the harbor shops. The Dana Point Farmer’s Market is another one of the featured attractions in Dana Point where you can joyfully pass some time, and it is open every Saturday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Though it’s not actually considered to be one of the attractions in Dana Point, the nearby Mission San Juan Capistrano is a must-visit for anyone who likes history and architecture, and it is just a short drive away in nearby San Juan Capistrano.
