Lake Tahoe restaurants come in an excellent variety, and the dining experiences in the area are a significant contributor to your enjoyment of your trip to Tahoe. On the shores of the lake, many waterfront establishments serve up fresh seafood at reasonable prices, most with an exquisite view of the lake and mountains.
One of the premiere seafood restaurants in South Lake Tahoe is The Fresh Ketch, located at the Tahoe Keys Marina. This restaurant is considered one of the best Lake Tahoe restaurants at which to get fresh seafood, and you can dine on the fresh catch of the day while looking out on the marina. Lobster and crab are available at market prices, prepared beautifully, and there is an excellent selection of fresh fish. There is also a selection of meat and pasta dishes, as well as surf and turf (a petite mignon with lobster). Prices are upscale, but if you're looking for more budget-friendly prices you can enjoy Lake Tahoe dining at The Fresh Ketch's bar and lounge, where prices are friendlier, and where you can enjoy live entertainment at the same time. Here you can get burgers and fish sandwiches, salads, seafood pastas, fish tacos, fish and chips, and more seafood-heavy bar fare.
To fuel up before hitting the ski slopes in the morning, one of the best Tahoe restaurants for breakfast food is the Red Hut Café. The Red Hut Café is one of the older restaurants in South Lake Tahoe, with a history dating back to 1959. It is a charming and quaint little establishment, with red upholstered chairs and a charming feel. The Red Hut's famous waffles are a traditional specialty, and in addition to breakfast dishes you can try out the old-fashioned soda fountain and ice cream parlor. Piles of waffles, hot cakes, and omelets await you at this little gem of Lake Tahoe dining, and if you can't make it for breakfast, you can stop by for a burger or sandwich at lunch.
If you've got a hankering to have lunch at more than 8,000 feet, you must check out one of the most unique Lake Tahoe restaurants—the Summit Deck and Grill at the summit of Mt. Pluto. Here at the top of the Northstar ski resort you can fuel up for breakfast and lunch with a selection of hot and hearty favorites, while gazing out at the panoramic views of the mountains around. The Summit Deck allows you to sit outside in the midst of the snow for the best views. Hot chili and cornbread is sure to warm you up in preparation for the descent down the slopes. The Summit Deck and Grill can be accessed by ski lift, and is open only during the ski season in the winter. For high-elevation Lake Tahoe dining with amazing views, the Summit Deck and Grill can't be beat.
Kalani's is another of the good restaurants in South Lake Tahoe. This unique restaurant serves Hawaiian fusion food, such as sushi, crab rolls, and more. Extremely fresh fish and seafood feature prominently on the menu, and the drinks menu is also extensive. Kalani's is located in the Heavenly Village on the South Shore, next to the Marriott Timber Lodge. No matter where you are in the Tahoe area, from North Lake Tahoe to Truckee, you’ll find plenty of dining options, and the fresh fish here is one of the best things to try. If you’re staying at a cabin or other vacation rental with a kitchen, you can even spend the day fishing and cook up your catch for dinner.
