The Long Beach Airport is a city-owned, public-use airport that is used for commercial flights, commuter flights, charter flights, private aviation, advertising blimps, air cargo carriers, and a variety of other things. Found just a few miles inland from the Long Beach coast, it is the second-closest airport to Disneyland, after the John Wayne Airport. It should be noted that commercial flights are severely restricted at the Long Beach Airport. This is largely due to ordinances that are designed to minimize noise in the surrounding neighborhoods. That being said, it is worth keeping this airport in mind when trying to find a flight to the Los Angeles and Orange County region, especially if you aren’t keen on arriving at the much larger and busier LAX. Of course, travelers can also book flights out of the Long Beach Airport. However, all flights to or from the Long Beach Airport are domestic flights—this is not an international airport.
Long Beach Airport Terminal
Completed in 1941, the Long Beach Airport Terminal boasts an attractive streamline moderne style, a type of art deco style that emerged in the 1930s. Even if you aren’t using the airport for flight-related needs, it can be rewarding just to drop by and give the original terminal a look. After all, it is a historical landmark. Renovations in 2013 served to meet the Long Beach Airport Terminal’s increasing demand. They were also undertaken in an effort to provide better customer service. A new passenger concourse was added, bringing the overall terminal area to 74,000 square feet. Among other things, the new concourse project increased the amount of shops and also included the installment of a peaceful garden core. Other features of the Long Beach Airport Terminal include cafes, restaurants, and bars.
Long Beach Airport Hotels
Long Beach Airport Hotels
Essentially all of the Long Beach hotels could be classified as Long Beach Airport hotels, as they offer proximity to the airport. Of course, some are closer than others. Among the hotels that are especially close to the Long Beach Airport are the Courtyard by Marriott Long Beach at Douglas Park (pictured) and the Long Beach Marriott. Other hotels that are found within easy reach of the terminal include the Holiday Inn Long Beach Airport, the Residence Inn Long Beach, and the Extended Stay America Long Beach. Not too far south of these hotels, some more affordable accommodations are available for those who are interested in cheaper Long Beach Airport hotels. Examples include the Quality Inn Near Long Beach Airport, the Rodeway Inn Long Beach, the Econo Lodge Long Beach, and the Super 8 Long Beach. Complementing these low-cost lodging establishments are a variety of relatively cheap non-chain hotels and motels that are in the same area. You can also search to the near west of the airport and find similar accommodations. Basically, it comes down to your budget and your ultimate preference in relation to location.
Long Beach Airport Shuttle
Air travelers flying to the Long Beach Airport can rely on shuttle service when trying to arrange their ground transportation. Several of the area hotels actually offer their own airport shuttle service, and oftentimes it is free. This is the case with the Long Beach Marriott, for example. For those who need to arrange their own Long Beach Airport shuttle service, there are any number of regional transportation companies that are authorized to pick up passengers on the Long Beach Airport property. Between them, these companies offer fleets of vans, small buses, limousines, and luxury sedans, so travelers can choose accordingly. Other ground transportation options at the Long Beach Airport include renting a car and hiring a taxi. The car rental offices are located in the Airport Ground Transportation Center, which is situated directly across from the terminal building. Taxis can be hired at the taxi stand that is found just outside of the terminal. As a side note, it is often possible to arrange either private or shared rides when it comes to Long Beach Airport shuttle service. Shared rides are the most affordable. Either way, making reservations and paying in advance are good ideas, as this can take some of the time and hassle out of things.
