Dolby Theatre

 

The Dolby Theatre is the home venue of one of the world's most important motion pictures awards ceremonies - the world famous Academy Awards. Opened in 2001 as the Kodak Theatre, the name was changed in 2012, when the Eastman Kodak Company filed for bankruptcy and lost its naming rights. The Academy Awards ceremony happens for one night a year in February or March. During the rest of the year the theatre hosts concerts, other awards ceremonies,and symphony performances. Guided tours are also available of the building.

Located in the heart of Hollywood near the famous junction of Highland Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, the Dolby Theatre is surrounded by numerous Hollywood hotels, with a wide variety of choices available. The historic Hollywood Roosevelt (pictured), sits on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. It is a luxurious renovated boutique hotel offering great dining venues and hot drinking spots like the famous Tropicana Bar. Closest to the theatre is the Hollywood Orchid Suites, with spacious apartment-sized suites and a heated swimming pool. Further away on Highland Avenue is a Holiday Inn Express, offering good value and the standardized service you would expect from the international brand. It has a breakfast room, and there are numerous restaurants nearby, including all those found two miles away at Universal Studios.
