The Asimolar Conference Grounds is one of the most interesting lodging retreats in California. Found along the shoreline of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, this Pacific Grove conference center and hotel offers rustic and charming accommodations that are housed in a number of different buildings. Such modern-day distractions as televisions and telephones are absent in the guest rooms in order to foster higher levels of rest and reflection. The Asimolar Conference Grounds and its deep connection to nature can also help guests get in the right frame of mind through any number of rewarding outdoor activities.
Hailed as a “Refuge by the Sea,” the Asimolar Conference Grounds occupies 107 gorgeous acres along the Pacific Grove coast in Monterey County. The ecologically diverse beachfront land welcomes guests with its immense air of relaxation, and for those who want to get active, there are all kinds of activity options. Biking, bird watching, and walking along the boardwalk are just some of the ways to stay busy during a stay at the Asimolar Conference Grounds, and depending on the weather, there is volleyball on the beach. The activities list doesn’t end there, with swimming, surfing, and sunbathing also figuring among the choices for outdoor recreation.
No discussion about the Asimolor Conference Grounds would be complete without going into depth about the resort’s architecture. A number of the buildings here were designed by Julia Morgan (1872-1957) and exhibit the highly agreeable Arts & Crafts architectural style. Quality craftsmanship is a hallmark of this style. Morgan, it should be noted, designed more than 700 buildings in California and is best known for her work on Hearst Castle. Other buildings at the Asimolar Conference Grounds were designed by architect John Carl Warnecke in a style complementary to that of Julia Morgan’s.
In addition to meeting and event venues, the facilities at the Asimolar Conference Grounds include beach access, an outdoor swimming pool, walking and biking trails, a social hall with pool tables, an expansive dining hall, and a convenient café. Guests are also provided with internet access and daily maid service, and they can choose to include just breakfast or three daily meals in their lodging packages.
