Paso Robles California

Paso Robles California is an inviting Central Coast city that can be found approximately 25 miles north of San Luis Obispo. Its location also puts it about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. One of the main reasons why Paso Robles is a popular travel destination is its delightful downtown district. The city is also well known for its wine industry, and to a lesser extent, its production of olive oil and almonds. Before these industries were established, the area that is now Paso Robles attracted people with its mineral and mud baths. The first mineral baths in the area were established by Franciscan priests from the historic Mission San Miguel, which lies to the near north of Paso Robles and is a fine example of Spanish architecture in California.
Paso Robles California Wineries
The Paso Robles American Viticultural Appellation boasts more than 180 wineries and is home to approximately 26,000 vineyard acres. Among the more than 40 wine varietals that are produced by the area wineries include such highly recognizable examples as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Zinfandel is the main heritage wine variety of the area, hence the name of one of Paso Robles’ most popular annual events – the Zinfandel Festival. This festival is held in March and attracts Zinfandel producers from all over the Central Coast. Other local events that wine enthusiasts are encouraged to keep in mind are the Paso Robles Wine Festival and the Harvest Wine Weekend. The former is held in May, while the latter takes place in October.
Downtown Paso Robles California
Downtown Paso Robles has plenty to offer and is a major reason why the city has recently been growing in popularity as a travel destination. It has a very historic and authentic feel and is home to enticing eateries and varied shopping outlets. Also lending to the allure of downtown Paso Robles California are its wine tasting venues and its centrally-located City Park. The land for the park was donated by the town’s founders – James and Daniel Blackburn. It is a five-acre plot that offers proximity to all of the downtown area’s other wonderful amenities. The City Park hosts a number of special events, such as 4th of July celebrations, car shows, and bi-weekly farmers markets. Those who are new to Paso Robles California are encouraged to begin their downtown tours at Park Street and 12th Street. Situated at this juncture is a small kiosk that offers visitor information.
Paso Robles Hotels & Lodging
There are many reasons why a Paso Robles visit can be rewarding. The wines and the downtown district are among the most obvious. Other reasons include, but aren’t limited to, the city’s annual hosting of the California Mid-State Fair and its proximity to coastal beaches and Hearst Castle. As for where to stay while in town, the Paso Robles Inn (pictured) is certainly worth keeping in mind. This member of the Historic Hotels of America occupies the site of the former Paso Robles Hotel and offers 98 enticing guest units. Another top rated hotel in Paso Robles California is the Hotel Cheval. A boutique luxury hotel, it easily offers some of the finest accommodations in the area. Other Paso Robles hotels of considerable quality include the Adelaide Inn and the La Bellasera Hotel. Travelers can also find some highly agreeable chain brand hotels in town, with examples including the La Quinta Inn & Suites Paso Robles and the Hampton Inn & Suites Paso Robles.
For those Paso Robles visitors who are looking for something other than a hotel, the wonderful Wine Country RV Resort can come in handy, as can the area campgrounds. There are also opportunities to stay at a winery, with an example being the HammerSky Vineyards & Inn. Rounding out the Paso Robles lodging options are the numerous vacation rentals that can be found in and around town.
